I'd assumed we had Clarke on the right and Evans on the left to encourage them to cut-in on their favoured feet and therefore provide more of a direct threat. If T&S wanted them wider then they'd swap them round?

Hope to see more from Clarke though. His corners were poor to the near post too. He’s capable of better, though the pitch was dire so maybe I’m being a tad harsh.

 

4231 is literally designed for wingers? As there’s 2 CDMs to cover the marauding runs wingers make. Strongly disagree with you, we won’t get out of this league without a serious injection of pace down either/both flanks. I’d like at least one winger in the starting 11 with 2/3 lads on the bench who can stretch teams. I’d like to see a Reach type player down one wing and a Marshall type down the other.

We had no choice but to play Clarke and Evans out there, the window was shut, we were haemorrhaging goals and didn’t have any wingers at the club. We need to be better going forward as we won’t play a defence like Southend every week. We need a player or two who can give the opposition something to worry about. Port Vale at home was a great example of where we were crying out for pace to get at them and behind them, we looked toothless, solid yes, but also very toothless.

 

Not trying to put a dampener on things but less than 180 minutes of bcfc football, is a small sample size.
Got a good feeling about Rowe but whilst expectations are rightfully on the way up, the beautiful game has a habit of finding out players, if their game is not consistent when a club is playing well, not so we'll or somewhere in between.

 

They'd have one for free if they got of them.

 

I'm not trying to be smart but if we continue to pick up points at the present ratio I'm not sure I'd change things to accommodate a pacey wide man, for me unless the club have written this season off (and I accept to get into a play off place is a massive ask) and we need to give other players we've brought in a chance, it would certainly be interesting once Hosannah is match fit what our right side would look like with Hosannah and Stevens.

As most will never have heard about Rowe at AFC Fylde never mind seeing him the only time we can comment is the times we have seen the lad play, so for me as an opposition player with Oldham I was impressed with his overall display (along with McAleny's) and so far more than impressed with his overall contribution in Claret & Amber.

There is a few in his Fylde showreel. We don’t look a threat in the air from corners or free kicks. We don’t have a Bobby Campbell type who doesn’t mind going in where it hurts

 

Who does these days ?

 

This short video clip is excellent : , free kicks, penalties, goals from his left foot right foot and a few headed goals, not afraid to try and bend the ball into the top corner as he tried against Cambridge.
He takes a mean penalty either side of the keeper, but not once in that clip when he receives the ball in and around the edge of the box does he look for an option but takes responsibility and usually hit's the target.

 

He is injured, it's a knee injury and they're waiting to see if it's ligament damage. It's believed he's going to be out a while.

Wingers are nice to have but you're right to question if we need wingers with this formation. Rowe claims he is a big lad but no target man. Sometimes with wingers it can leave you a bit open down the middle, with this system we are more solid but can still look good going forward with the likes of Evans, Clarke and even Sutton getting wide to stretch teams by interchanging.
Ironically I think McCall was trying to do this but was over complicating things and probably not preparing them properly.
