Some of our fans will be applauding if we recruit one of the above positions but its pretty much standard practice and as you allude to we're just playing catch up. A damming indictment of how this football has been run for years, vey little in terms of being pro active.

If it is Irvine, it doesn't sound like he has ever worked in recruitment. Always been a marketing guy, more focused on changing finances and bringing in sponsor deals. Doesn't look like he hangs around for a while either.

 

Parker reckons its someone with experience in recruitment so I doubt its him.

I'm not being funny, but wouldn't the person be best, being "experienced in football" rather than recruitment? This would be like getting Alan Sugar in for a week, and him looking over the books, and deciding just based on his knowledge pool, who goes and who comes in. Haven't we done this before, bring in two "businessmen" with an ear for success and money to take the club in a new direction? Sadly, because of their complete lack of understanding concerning the football world, we're now in the same boat again. The last thing we want, is some fella coming in with "Head of Recruitment, Manpower UK" on his cv, but doesn't know the difference between Dylan and Thierry.

 

I wouldn't expect it to be someone with no football experience. That would be suicidal and a complete waste of time and money.

The lack of infrastructure is actually quite shocking when you put it like that. Successive owners and directors letting it get to that state should be ashamed if it’s true.

 

Well from what McCall said on Saturday is that someone is coming in to help with recruitment
McCall said when he tok the job last February was he had sole charge of football affairs transfers training and recruitment
So what is this new persons role going to be a human resources role dealing with players staff wages and grievances etc?
It will be interesting to find out but does not help us get better players which we need Urgently

If there's a recruitment meeting with McCall and Sparks this week to sort out the plan for Jan then wouldn't it make sense to have this new person in place before then so they can take part in the meeting? Then again, "sense" and "Bradford City" don't often belong in the same sentence.

 

It is and I think you are spot on that the state in which the footballing staff appears in comparison to other clubs should be an area of shame - it is little wonder that we are staring non-league in the face. Obviously Wikipedia isn't the most reliable source but when I did venture onto the odd club website and their "Who's who" page, it suggested that we are lacking in other areas such as Academy recruitment as well.

Now maybe I'm being too focused on a meaningless web page that has been poorly maintained or may not tell the full story. But I don't think that is the case given that the recent CEO change has been picked up on and our "Who's who" page goes into the detail of listing the club "Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon" as "On the field" staff.

Whoever this person is that is coming in to help with recruitment, I think we need to see someone with a footballing background who can also help support Ryan Sparks in building at least some stable infrastructure behind the scenes. Because the evidence that we have suggests that this area has been neglected for some time and leaves us with a club that does indeed look very non-league.

 

Knowing City our first recruit will be Hope Akpan.
