Whilst I agree with your sentiment Bronco. I don't ever think for one minute it will be of the calibre of either Vaughan or Doyle.

Wasn’t that also said about Vaughan? Look what happened to him!
BTW! I defended Billy Topp. I saw his debut vs Hereford at home, and he played a slide rule ball inside their fullback, that our winger just did not read. I still say he was talented, but it’s the people around you who make you. Let’s hope Guthrie can get some service this season!

It must have been a really bad attitude then to let a talented player leave because Stevenage were fighting for their football league lives.

I very much doubt they will be of the same potential calibre or command the same money as either of the above mentioned, unfortunatly neither Hopkin or Bowyer could get anything near Doyle's Swindon form out of him whilst he was here again Vaughan had ability without doubt but I have to ask was it Bowyer who drove Vaughan out, I now have my doubts, especially after McCall insight into the Vaughan situation.

I think a striker is the least of our worries. Watching the highlights of yesterday reminded me of our defensive frailties. We either sign a defensive central midfielder who can take the pressure off of our very average central defenders or we sign a new centre back that can try and deal with the inevitable attacks coming through our non existent midfield.

After 60 minutes it was men against boys if you look at our side . Novak and Guthrie and the liability that is Bre the rest of the outfield players were youth or played non league last season. If we had kept the starting 11 for the full 90 I dont think we would have conceded 4 goals.

Main problem is we have 7 (I think?) centre backs in the squad now and only 3 strikers who all play a very similar role. I agree that none of those 7 are particularly outstanding and even the best of them, you ideally only want as a squad player, but it becomes hard to justify signing another into the squad with the gaping holes left over. I've not really too much of an idea what kind of player Sutton is other than a utility man but I completely agree on the need for another in midfield though.

Our CB issue is basically the same as what our midfield was like last year, plenty of numbers but probably only one of them who looked good enough to cement a place (Cooke) and even his form had faded.

Watching the highlights the first half our right back got skinned for the first goal . We definitely need a right back and after that for the first half at least we seemed to be on top it was after the changes we seemed to be more potent up front but weak at the back

On one of the videos it looked like Tyler french as he has blonde hair now. If so I think he played there under Bowyer against Preston in the cup and looked so out of place. Definitely a right Back needed.

I don't agree on having the players, you get any team functioning as a proper unit that exceeds the sum of its parts and they would be able to pull this off relative to their level in the game. The alternative is sitting back and inviting pressure on a weak defence which we definitely dont have the players for in my opinion

Glad you finally understand that currently we are weak at the back.

We urgently need to improve our defense or we won't get anywhere.

I said we were week second half it’s always good to improve but we have people on contract so little room for manoeuvre

Not sure I'd go as far as to say a striker is the least of our worries but I get where you're coming from. As has already been mentioned, I think it's unlikely we'll see another CD come in when we already have so many under contract, but we definitely need a CM enforcer type player to take the heat off the back 4. I actually think having to defend constantly like they did last season won't have helped their confidence one bit, but get a good defensive midfielder in there to take some of the pressure off and it might mean we see a much more effective back line.

It would help, it worries me though that POC and BRE get caught out with pretty basic stuff. A new central midfielder won't stop that. We do need another striker but as it stands have 3 already (i won't mention Clarke as playing players out of their best position is a pet hate of mine). For me the necessity of a midfielder and centre back out weighs a striker at this moment, without them we will concede for fun.
