It will be backfire on us. Look at how South Korea have managed it and we should be copying them. This herd immunity will not work and we are on a serious steep curve of deaths to rival Spain at the minute.

We should be doing everything we can to copy South Korea

But we can't because we don't have their testing facilities.

Nobody knows yet how the governments strategy is going to work, let's hope it's the best option.

When we come out the other side of this we must ensure we are prepared for next outbreak because this won’t be the last

Over here they've told us that alcohol sales have to be stopped at 10pm. Pretty much means pubs will close full stop, as it's a total ghost town here with no one daring to go out. I closed my bar on Monday because I couldn't get anyone to work for me, plus I was getting dirty looks from people. The Government will pay 70% salary for 3 months to staff who have lost their job in the food and beverage industry. Nothing mentioned about those who are going to be losing their business because of this though. I'm hoping some bridging loan or something similar will be considered, because it will actually cost me more to sack the girls than just give them 2 weeks paid leave and see what happens after that.

My kids live with their mother 50% and me 50% but typically they've only gone and caught it whilst at hers, which means I can't see them for two weeks at least.

Nothing very rosy at the moment :(

It's far too early to tell whether the South Korea model is effective.

Yes, for now it appears to have worked, the infection rate has dropped and death rates are low. The problem with the South Korea model is that it's very easy for the virus to take hold again so what you end up with is massive peaks and troughs over an extended period of time. The perceived flaw behind this is that it will take much longer in terms of time to eradicate the virus.

Countries are trying their own thing based on the advice they are getting from there experts. Time will tell which has been the most effective but right now, it is far too early to be following a specific model.

    • China, with 82,007 cases and 3,338 deaths
    • Italy, with 31,500 cases and 2,503 eaths
    • Iran, with 16,169 cases and 988 deaths
    • Spain, with 11,178 cases and 491 deaths
Anyone spot a discrepancy with China's figures compaires to the rest of the world?

Its one thing to not blame China for the outbreak. But when they cover their tracks as it seems they have done, I would imagine they will face some backlash once this is sorted.

The China figures are pure bollocks, yet some people take them as gospel. They control the media and won't report anything which shows then in a bad light. The people of China are blocked from accessing the info from countries.

Those on here slating our government and quote what China says as fact might also believe the Nazi radio broadcast from Stalingrad on Christmas day in the early 40s.

I've read comments on social media praising China on how they've 'dealt' with the situation. How about helping everyone else out, after all you started this.

By helping everyone else out they will probably end up leading people to realise what the real figures are in China and not the tosh that many on here and social media believe they are.

Mate, if you don't want to believe the figures in China then don't but these are the figures they're reporting and you can only go by them. You do understand in China you're tested when you leave your house and return?

Fact is they are now getting on with life and at some point we will have too.

In the U.K. we don't do enough testing and it's something Boris needs to urgently change. He needs increase the testing and force isolation.

China implemented draconian isolation policies, the type which can never be implemented in a western liberal democracy, which limited their infection rate to a factor of 4. Mandatory temperature testing when leaving your house, only being allowed to leave your house at certain times to certain places, a distance from residence limit. All kinds of crazy stuff, military randomly temperature testing people on the street in Wuhan and forcibly escorting them to Corona hospitals (read: infectious prison) for testing. There are military at the entrance of every apartment building temperature testing all exits and entrances.

The tipping point comes when the health care system fails, which will increase both the infection rate and mortality rate by huge factors. China's response is on a level that non-authoritarian non-centralised governments simply can't match. The west simply isn't building multiple medically supported isolation sites (hospitals) in 7 days. At the moment Italian healthcare is just holding on, but they passed their respiratory care capacity last week.

So, like it our not more testing and force movement is the only way out of this. This if you've a cough stay at home won't work in the U.K.

Testing of healthcare staff as a bare minimum, surely. I’m no expert, but I can’t see why that wouldn’t happen.

Didnt some Russian media outlets blame Britain for planting the virus in Wuhan, Salisbury style, earlier this week. Apparently we did it to aid Brexit, not quite sure how that as helped though!
