out of interest have any of the squad been a regular skipper at another club, as for me this seems one of the biggest weakness, we appear to have no leaders out there who will either encourage / influence/ kick this bunch into life when the chips are down.

is Park Bantam still saying we will kick on when Donaldson returns haha. I think we always clutch at straws for a reason, the reason we are where staring at another season in L2 is we are saddled with a bunch of bottlers.

 

Well I for one cannot accept a goalkeeper as a captain.
As good as they may be in their position, the job has to be for an outfield player who can get around the team and cajole/encourage/bollock players.
No way can a 'keeper do that.
Now...……….if only we had a player like that!

Sorry Ioz but I did! Whenever City were away and I couldn't get there (nobbut a lad!) I used to get the bus to Chester St. Bus Station and walk up to "to t'Avenue" to watch them and to get my weekly football fix. Normally it was to VP to watch the reserves in the Midland League though!

 

Whilst I agree with you about the use of the word ‘hate’, comparing Akpan to Vaughan and Donaldson is unfair. Whilst both have their own issues, nobody can argue they don’t/didn’t gave their all. Something Akpan doesn’t do and is a reason why @YungNath ”hates” him

Agree with all of this. However, what all good managers state is that a sign of a good team is a desire to fight and stick together when things aren’t going well. Fans will accept average players or just average performances. But most fans will not accept half-arsed effort. And at the moment, we have too many that simply stop working as hard when they feel the rub of the green is against them.

I appreciate confidence is massive in sport. But for me, that should be the trigger to work even harder to try to kick-start the rebuilding of that confidence. It should not be used as an excuse to simply stop trying.

History shows many examples of average teams with average players doing really well. This is usually down to effort and giving an extra 10-20% more than the opponent because they recognised that they weren’t quite as good technically, so had to work harder that the other team.

Something we simply lack. When you are average and play on an average team and you don’t apply yourself, there is only ever going to be one outcome...... defeat.

I just think when you've a group of players normally you have 1-3 players not performing but when you have around 10 then you need to look at the bigger picture and that's Rupp and Rhodes.

You need to look at recruitment.

Yes, on forums I have hammered players and will continue to do so but the club is going backwards and Rhodes & Rupp are accountable for that.

 

Sorry have to disagree maybe it's an age thing but "hating" someone because they don't come up to fans expectations is a little OTT for me.
I believe he quoted him being a big earner along with the ones you've mentioned above is also the case, hardly value for money, but as I posted players don't always work out for the club they signed for.

 

I’m not disagreeing that the owner and CEO are accountable. But they’re not the ones passing a football 5yds to a team-mate and kicking it out of play. Or coming across and trying to wrap tour left boot around the ball and shanking it straight into touch 3 times in a row.

10-13 poor players is down to the management in my eyes.

 

But it’s different managers? McCall signed Reeves for example. Rahic/Abbott signed a vast number last season. Bowyer signed a load more this time. Who is to blame? All of them surely?

If you employ someone to do a role, you don’t micro-manage them. Isn’t the the issue McCall had with Rahic last time? I don’t think recruitment is down to Rhodes/Rupp.

 

Reeves was an integral part of our midfield that season McCall signed him from Wimbledon, playing 25 games up to getting his injury, I believe it would have been Rahic who signed it off, as he was part of the "transfer committee" Rahic, Abbott & McCall.

 

I’m not saying I agree with his turn of phrase. I did say that I agree with you over the use of the word “hate”. However, I do see his frustration.

I also believe @YungNath has tried to clarify that he doesn’t mean he hates the person himself, but rather the behaviour of that player.
