That’s what you heard? I listened to the same interview and whilst it is true he said we can’t compete with the likes of the very top sides, I’m not sure he said our main objective is to develop players to sell on without remaining competitive.

I think the depth of the squad was the issue I agree. However the fact we were where we were suggests it wasn’t that bad.. all teams lose games.

I heard him say we would sign players we could develop and sell on. He actually corrected a wrong assumption that they have to be young. He used Wyke and Reeves as examples.

But he also made it clear that the players had to be introduced gradually into a team of experienced players and not just dumping 11 kids into the 1st team and praying 1 or 2 make it.

So I repeat, the objective is to sign players we can improve (who, in turn, should improve us as a team), keeping us competitive and then selling on as and when needed.

An example of this working, in part, is Peterborough. They have bought and sold lots of very good players over the years. Now, the question I would ask McAnthony would be, what happened to those funds?

 

I'm confused. Five minutes ago you told me that Edin never said the objective was to develop young players. Now you've just confirmed that is the strategy?

There you go, I’ve highlighted the key word for you. Nobody has mentioned “young” players. We have just assumed that because many of the signings have been players released from academies.

Besides, I said the objective wasn’t to develop players AT THE EXPENSE of building a competitive side.

 

You keep out of this, just because you were rich enough to offer Jack Tordoff a £20 bet back in 1988 doesn't mean I can afford to give £10 away .
