The crucial thing that is lacking, for me, is a REAL sense of competition for places.

It's pretty obvious that if fit and not suspended, Donaldson and Vaughan will start every single game, regardless.

While I'm sure some would have thrown toys out of the pram if either had been dropped in the first six-seven games, it's getting to the stage where freshening things up needs to be a consideration.

Vaughan isn't the one I'd have dropped, but now he's given Bowyer no option.

 

Lets hope Oteh or McCartan come in and take their chance next week, and poses a selection dilemma for Bowyer the week after

 

So are we if we can't beat the bottom team who play with 10 men for 3/4 of the game

 

I don't know a lot about Oteh, so hopefully he can kick his professional career into gear with us - personally not bothered about Shay, but he's the more experienced and therefore potentially a bigger threat for a front two place if he can make an impact.

 

Come on Fordy, there is not a cat in hells chance of us finishing bottom of the league

For what its worth:

OD - 6 cant really give him anything else cos he had nothing to do!
Mellor - 5 liability. Gifts possession away for too much and other than his long throws, which ain't great anyway, I dont see what he adds
POC - 7
AOC - 7
Wood - 8 getting better and better. Put a goal on a plate for Donaldson, not his fault that Donaldson fluffed it
Connelly - 7 lots of running and lots of crosses but not enough threat
Pritchard - 7 Similar to Connelly
Akpan - 6 did ok in terms of using the ball but awful with his shooting
Cooke - 8 MOTM. Controlled the game for us.
Donaldson - 5 missed a glorious chance and spent more time on his arse than his feet
Vaughan- 5. Far too quiet. He needs to be winning us games like this.

A really frustrating day. We bossed it, had more than enough possession to win the game but not enough quality in the box. Ref didn't help by being uber fussy but that's not excuse. Changes should have been made earlier to push for the win too.

2 points dropped.

 

Not walking the league is not the same as being the very worst in the division, bound to finish last.

There is a gap in the middle - it's subtle, but it's there.

I like a flutter Fordy. I will give you odds of 200/1 for City to finish bottom this season. How much do you want to stake on it mate?

 

I wonder if Vaughan getting booked might be a blessing in disguise. He seemed passive for long periods. It looked to me like he wasn't playing his natural aggressive game for fear of getting booked.
Let's get his one match ban done and get the real Vaughan back.

 

We were hopeless in that game. All of the ball yet not a clue what to do with it. Sideways, sideways, backwards, get it out wide and sling it in, hit the first man and repeat. Woeful stuff against an utter shite side.

 

Hopeless isn't right.

Disappointing is more like it.

There's nothing wrong with the basic set up, the number of chances created, or the work rate of the players.

However, we've been frustrated by a struggling side and that's a let down.

I think Scunthorpe are the only side in the bottom half to take a point of us?

 

Palmer's knee in a brace after game, doesnt sound good for the lad, shame, I think he would have developed a good partnership with Cooke, back to Akpan then
