Usain Bolt is quick and has a build perfect for football. Doesn’t mean he has what it takes to be a top player though. Pace and build are not the only attributes that players need.

Desire, commitment, football intelligence and a natural ability are more so. Some can be coached but most of those traits cannot. You either have a desire or you don’t.

I didn’t say he would become a top player did I? I said he’s already been written off but he could still come good. He’s playing in League 2, pace, physique and commitment will go a long way. You don’t know any more than I do how his career will pan out. Just as much as you didn’t know Oli’s development would take off.

He played in league 2 last season on loan with Yeovil and didn't exactly set their world alight. I'd love to be proved wrong but he's 23 now, I just can't see him still coming good as you put it.

Did you see anything in McBurnie’s 20 appearances in Claret and Amber and 0 goals that made you think he’d be going to a premier league team for £20 million? I don’t remember anyone on C&B thinking he was worthy of a place in the starting XI.

It doesn't matter what I saw, Swansea saw something in him and they were right. I don't see any other clubs seeing something in Patrick and taking a punt on him do you?

Big difference between the two was their age though. McBurnie was a teenager when he played for us and at the time had not at all filled out. He struggled to impose himself on games because of it and mightve got a bit bullied at times by CBs twice his size. Technically he was always sound though. It was hard to judge him at the time.
Patrick is now 23 and I haven't seen evidence to suggest he will make it

Even if he had played for us banging in 20 goals etc we wouldn’t have got over 3m for him. You have to remember he was young went to Swansea. Loaned out to Chester, Newport etc. No one would have automatically put him in the first 11 anyway

Rhodes and Lawn deserve a big slap on the back for negotiating the 15% clause in the first place. Loads of people happy to chuck mud at them (occasionally with some justification) however this deal / foresight is a massive help to the finances even if Rupp swallows most of it up after dickheads errors last season.

Wonder if the existence of the clause increased the value of the club previously

If McBurnie had been 12 years old, I'm sure you would agree such an argument was ridiculous.

You should also be able to see, by extension, that this argument is short sighted at best.

My comment wasn’t really aimed at Oli ability or the scouts eye for it . It was more aimed at what a tidy sum of money they have made from the ‘punt’ vin . As you say the signs were there but it doesn’t always work out that the player cuts it in league football . Great business for everybody involved

Big difference is that Oli excelled as a youth player. He didn’t develop at City because the style of football under PP won’t have helped him. But he always had the ability.
He scored 1 in 3 whilst loaned briefly to Chester.
He then scored 3 in 8 appearances whilst on loan to L2.
By then time he knocked in 9 in 17 for Barnsley in the Championship, I think everyone realises he was getting better and better.

    Now let’s compare to Patrick;
Failed to score in 18 appearances whilst at Kidderminster
Scored 2 in 19 for City in L1
Joined Yeovil in L2 on a loan and couldn’t get games because he was so poor. He managed just the one goal.

We really want to compare them?

The thing with McBurnie is his eye for goal he is a natural finisher. Which makes up for a lack of pace usually associated to a premiership striker.
Didn’t develop at City he was 18 he wasn’t there long enough to develope. Due to injuries he was asked to do a job he was physically unable to do. He was snapped up by Swansea had he not been who is to say he wouldn’t have made it here as well..
Patrick is a bit older and whilst he has pace he seems to lack anything else

Wonder why just 15% given the fee was so small? Delph was 25% as was Cleverly. Think Wisdom was 25% also. What was Wells?

PL club came in and took our youngster for 250k. Nice to get 15% but maybe could have gotten more.

Absolutely no-one at the time rated him. It’s not like folk were saying we might have a player here, let’s wait til he fills out a bit. He got pelters like Devine and Colville get now.

Omari’s development hasn’t progressed the way he or the fans would have wanted to so far, but he’s still young. He’s not had that much game time for us, a lot of his appearances have come from the bench.
But he wasn’t 12 so what is your point? I think you’re being ridiculous to be honest.
