    Parkinson often did not play with 2 out and out wingers. Under Parkinson, McMahon played on the right of midfield in front of Darby, with McMahon certainly not being a winger, but a player who could cross.

    If the formation Bowyer uses suits this, Wood playing on the left as a left sided midfielder who can cross might be worth a try. There should be Scannell as an out and out winger on the right. If not Wood, Ismail or Gibson may be competent on the left.

    On another note, McCall often played Law on the left of midfield and we did well enough that season.

    I think that ahead of focusing on signing a new left winger, central midfield needs to be the priority over this.

    see Carlisle got Canice Carroll on a season long loan from Brentford, would have been good here as he's a tough tackling midfielder with lots of energy
