We signed Henley to play right back if Mellor can't play right back.

It doesn't matter why Mellor isn't at right back.

 

As I posted on another 'FRED' ................ Midfield is pivotal to what City may achieve. WIN in that area of the pitch, and THAT will determine where we finish, come next May. Defend solidly, and attack with intent. Luton led the way in this, last season, no reason to suggest City can't replicate that .... Other than further signings

 

Well, we have 3 plus an unknown “project”. Remember, that was the phrase used by Bowyer, not me, to describe French.

In the not too distant past, we’ve had other players like him; Lachlan Barr, Thomas Isherwood, Josef Hefele and the kid we re-signed from Liverpool after letting him join them. Is Tyler any different from those names at this stage of his career?

 

True. But say you switch Mellor to cover in the middle and Henley becomes right-back, where has your right-back ‘cover’ gone? What happens if Henley gets injured or suspended?

Devine or Riley?????

 

Anyway, we’re just going around in circles here, because every man and his dog want to tell me I’m wrong and by responding, it’s just going on and on.

I’m leaving the debate here.

 

I wouldn't have offered contracts to all 3 of Anderson, Devine and Colville because we do need more quality in there (2 first team ready CM's Imo) and hence there's a good chance that we'll have atleast 2 midfielders completely surplus to requirements. Likewise, the same applies to a 4th choice centre back. Unlikely to play much football for us (if at all) and I wouldn't want him taking up a decent chunk of the budget. I'd rather spend the extra money you'd put towards a fourth choice player on someone higher up the pecking order (1st, 2nd and 3rd choice players in that order). If you think 4th choice players should get more priority and are even willing to sacrifice quality in more urgent areas to do it then each to their own. I'm not even going to bother arguing against that logic but I think you're talking tosh

Back to the point I made earlier. Why would you talk about strength in depth and then provide Routis, Thorpe and Toner as examples? If they were good enough 4th choice players for you (in league 1 at that) then surely Mellor makes the cut?

 

Dean Richards hadn't played senior football before we threw him in the deep end but that turned out ok.

Who knows if French is good enough just yet but GB has signed him so he should be brave enough to throw him in should he be required. Maybe he'll surprise us all and play his way in to be first choice? Until we've seen him I think you're being very harsh by automatically excluding him just because of a throw away comment GB made upon his signing.

 

I think the trialists are coming in this week so hopefully we get a few snaps.

Not rumours, but would anyone be against the signing of Jamie Ward? Not played much over the past couple of seasons, but another with years of experience in the bank at Championship level. I believe he’s out of contract soon.

Or what about Matt Jarvis? Another Championship player likely to leave this summer for a lower league side. Too far a drop? Are these boys too far out of our range?

Trying to see alternatives to Conway, who is another Championship midfielder and one some believe we could be interested in.

Wasn't it mentioned previously by someone on here that he worked with Cal Roberts dad. Young Roberts had just been released by Newcastle and it was stated that GB had invited him down for a trial. Wonder if this is still on?

 

Good record in PL2, but is he what we need? Another Seedorf? I believe he was loaned to Colchester in the January window and failed to win a single start.

At least Gibson did get game time during his loan spell.

13 goals from 22 Under 23 appearances for Newcastle last season. Last I read up on him he was interesting a few EFL clubs

 

He’s not coming back here. Was a regular for a side at the top end of League One, he’d get another L1 club even if he were available. And he doesn’t like us either.

 

Come on mate, we need something happen. Not even a sniff of a transfer for a few days.
