Its not just today. Everytime I walk into the ground at the Kop end, I glance over to the main stand and think of them

 

Not been on here for a while due to the dross on the field.
Well said Broncs.
Always a poignant time of year.
I wasn't at VP that day but saw the smoke from Undercliffe Cricket Club and ran to my Grandmas to see the horror on the news.
Unimaginable how peoples lives had ended and total admiration which always brings tears to my eyes even now for the victims who as members of the same family stayed with each other right to the end.

I would just like to thank the Wimbledon fans for being so respectful during the minutes silence, but not only that, for joining in our minutes applause also. THANK YOU!

 

Along with my dearly departed dad I was at that game and no words can replace the sights and sounds from that day. Always in my thoughts and never ever forgotten. RIP

 

To have been there that dreadful day with my 3 brothers and many friends I will never forget. RIP 56

Well said Broncs. Setting off shortly, wearing black Club tie today and carrying a heavy heart as always. Thinking of my old man who I managed to get to join us in the paddock then onto the pitch, my wife who had just had major surgery and was forbidden to go, "if there's an emergency, like a fire you will not get out " said her Consultant. I think of my Dad's mate Ernest Normington who's papers I used to deliver as a kid and all the others including those who still carry the scars.
The sun is shining here as it always should on this day.

That game was the only game I missed home and away that season.

I was at a football tournament in London. Was in the team minbus when I heard reports on the radio of a fire at Bradford City. Found a TV and saw the pictures. I was in tears the rest of the day and as an 18 year old that wasn't the done thing.

I always stood in the paddock. Loved in in there.

Every time I look over to the stand I always look to the area where it started and think how lucky I was not to be there that day.

God rest their souls.

Will never forget the images I witnessed that day, but thankful and sometimes feel guilty that my family and I managed to escape unhurt.

My season ticket holder daughter has always been aware of the impact that day had on fans and the community, and has she and her husband are getting ready to welcome a new Bantam into the world, I trust that future generations of Bantams carry on the respects and remember the 56

Hope you folks don't mind me joining your forum just to add my condolences on this saddest of days. RIP to the 56 and thoughts with their families and Bradford City FC.

 

I'm going to say something that might be contentious and I apologise if it upsets anyone but I feel it has to be said as I feel I am not alone.

I was at the fire and the 56th minute applause upsets me. Negligence on the part of various parties caused the fire that killed 56 people, physically injured over 300 and emotionally scarred thousands. For my part, I forgive them all. It was a horrible accident. I had no physical injuries but it caused me great emotional turmoil which can still bring me to tears at times.

When we come together for remembrance, we open up our own old wounds to pay our respects to those who suffered more and their loved ones. It hurts but it is the right thing to do to remember the fallen and offer support for the survivors amongst us who still suffer. My problem is that I don't think the events of that day are something that should be applauded. Although there were tales of great bravery from fans, those connected to the club, and the emergency services, remembrance is overwhelmed by remembering the things we choose not to remember most of the time because of the pain they bring. I can't bring myself to applaud these.

Standing in silence and holding scarves up would seem a more appropriate gesture, or something similar. However, I don't advocate that either. The big problem is the game continues and some people continue to cheer or boo the incidents happening on the pitch, which is understandable yet disrespectful at the same time. What happens when there's a penalty appeal or goal? It undermines the show of respect. What good is a show of respect if it is overcome when a keeper makes a great save or, worse, a dangerous tackle? I think doing anything at 56 minutes, or any other point during the game, is misguided.

I know we all grieve and deal with trauma differently. Some that were there on that fateful day might be happy with the 56th minute applause but I know from previous posts on the topic that there are some find it upsetting like me. We have a minute's silence before the last home game of the season. We have a service at the cathedral. We have a service at the memorial. These allow people to share their pain and support each other. We did not have a 56th minute applause for 30 years. Why have we started? I don't like it. It upsets me. It can lead to many people disrespecting it if something happens in the game. I just do not think it is appropriate and I respectfully ask that people stop doing it.

Again, I humbly and sincerely apologise if this upsets anyone but I felt the urge to speak out about it. I speak for myself but I feel there will be some who suffered more than me who agree but feel too pained to speak out about it.

RIP 56 souls. My thoughts are also with the physically and emotionally injured fans that survived; the emergency services,those connected to the club, neighbouring residents and members of the public that helped to deal with the terrible aftermath; and the friends and families of all the aforesaid who also suffered along with them. Some have passed on since . Some continue to suffer. You are not alone. We remember. It brings me to tears again, as I remember.
