    See how Barnsley do.

If they don't go up this year be interesting to see how long they stay in L1 for and how they cut their cloth.

It's an age old problem and one that's gone round and round on this thread. I want us to improve, push ourselves etc but to put it into a nutshell people are never satisfied. An example would be James Mason, he used social media to a level that we haven't seen before, he helped drive our season tickets to new levels but yet people were whinging about the cheap tacky campaigns, people just don't like change.

Look back at a couple of changes, Archie Christie tried to bring new ideas and it was shot down from every angle, albeit he tried to do it on some of the scottish crap and we ended up with players like Mark Stewart but everybody at the time was following what Parky wanted and wanting every available resource to be put into the first team.

I will put it out there, Edin wanted to do it but failed miserably buying crap but some were against the idea of it. I agree that there's needs to be a strategy but ultimately football is money now and it needs someone who seems it more of a hobby than a business because it's a black hole.

Some of the posts make out that we are the only one swho operate the way we do... 90% of the clubs in the EFL work the same way. It's easy to pick out a couple of clubs who have had a bit of success but if you went back historically I bet you'd find that a lot of these clubs fail implementing a strategy i.e training facilities, bank rolling youth etc. Training facilities are a funny one aren't they? They are the first thing that gets sold when a club hits financial trouble, so what's the difference for example from when Leeds were renting Thorpe Arch in terms of the facilities, i.e pitches etc?

Until we have someone who fancies throwing a load of money at it with no promise of a return it's the situation we are in. We were making progress before Rahic, slow progress but it was progress all the same with some unbelievable memories thrown in. This model clearly works at the level we're at doesn't it, just needs the right man in charge of the football team and I believe GB is that man.

I take your point on change, however fans need to buy into and it therefore needs charisma and clear communication to deliver the message. I agree we are not a lot different from other clubs at our level. All businesses need a plan to work to, but we haven’t had a sustainable plan for a number of years if ever. I am willingly to wait as long as I can see we are going forward, but I guess I am in the minority. Agree about the requirement of a person who is prepared to fund us without a return for a very long time. I think what ppl are saying is that it has been done by teams who have had very little revenue. What I do know is, we can’t just carry on as we have been. The one thing that has astonished me, is the speed at which our club has been dismantled. That signal’s to me how fragile our base has been, and I want us to do better.

You seemed to take great offence at posters questioning the training facilities, made an example out of them and told them to shut their mouths. It certainly came across like you took the criticism on a personal level and was trying to justify yourself at the back of it.

Back to the main topic, I also recall an interview with Hopkin where he talked about long term plans and making improvements to the training facilities, which again seems to back up what Grayson and Warnock have stated.

I've got a simple question for you Roger, did your negotiation with Woodhouse Grove involve some sort of binding contract where XYZ must be adhered to at all times?

If not, I don't believe that yours and Warnock's comments are mutually exclusive.

For example, you negotiate a deal and ask for certain things, as you addressed in your original post. Brilliant. Woodhouse Grove agree to it and for the most part, things are fine. Torrid weather conditions result in the YR 11 outdoor P.E lesson being cancelled and they, last minute, have it in the school gym as an emergency, meaning our players can't use it. You can negotiate whatever you want, unless you oversee training week in week out you can't be certain that some of the inconveniences Warnock, Grayson (and to a lesser extent Hopkin) address don't exist.

As always though, you know everything and the gullible people reading your posts believe you know everything with paying any attention at all to the other possibilities.

Wouldn’t it just be a case of the school teachers would know they can’t use the gym, with this torrential downpour and would have to go elsewhere?

I’m not sure they’d be marching city players out.

I've been in the canteen at the school and my son eats there every day.

The food is amazing. The menu attached is proof.

Sadly, knowing the school and the facilities as I do, I really think Warnock is showing himself up.

We were League 1. At this level, we have brilliant facilities.

To compare us with his Premier League/Championship examples (eg Grayson came from Sunderland), is ridiculous.

Haven't a clue, it was an example of one inconvenience of many that could occur when you share the same facilities. I've also had a read back over Warnocks comments and I'm not even convinced him and Owen are in disagreement.

Warnock:The training ground is shared with a school, you’re sharing facilities with the school, you can’t go in the gym when they need it. The training ground is a school pitch, if they want it, then they use it.”

RO confirms that facilities can only be used at certain times he day, presumably to accommodate precisely what Warnock is referring to.

Warnock: Often, you’re eating school dinners as well. This is meant to be a professional outfit, but it’s not good enough for that level, or for a club of that size."

RO: As to school dinners, we have had a mixture of supply. We do our own breakfasts prior to training. Lunch has been variously provided by the school chefs or imported from our sponsors Mama Mia Restaurant depending on time of week or demand.

wetherbywhaler was quick to label him as a shit stirrer but has more or less paraphrased Warnocks comments as a counterargument to Warnock's comments.

    very strange that.

Haven't Park Avenue got some scheme or other linked up with educational facilities?

Do we have brilliant facilities though Glenn? Walsall built their own facility years ago, we’ve heard about Fleetwood, Cov have their own and are looking to build a new facility, Burton use St George’ Park, Shrewsbury, recently rebuilt, Oxford are building their own and so on.

We should aspire to be the best, not aah it’ll be right. VP is showing its age now, the club doesn’t own it, the club doesn’t own its own training ground. Just what are all these other clubs doing that City aren’t? It’s not all down to wealthy owners pissing money away. The club has for years in my opinion bumbled along, there’s no vision, no inspiration, Mason tried and got things going a bit, but that’s it, I truly believe things will be the same as they are now in years to come, a tired ageing stadium, league 2 football and a sense of apathy.

It’s the acceptance of mediocrity or not wanting to do better that frustrates me, we’re League 1/2/National League, what do you expect?

Fight with other lower league chairmen to change the model of football finance, harass and embarrass the council for support, work better with local business, look at what other sports do, look at how minor league baseball attracts crowds, but this apparent acceptance of it’s ok to be shit, we’re League 2 is poor.

I wonder if we had any input into the facilities at Woodhouse Grove or we just borrow and adapt what they have? It would be nice in the future to have our own facility, maybe somewhere in the heart of the City like King George playing fields for instance.

Proper school dinners would have give this squad the kick up its arse it so badly needed. I now know why the likes of NKP and Chicksen have been so shite this season, lack of bangers and mash followed by double helpings of sponge pudding and pink custard poured out of the metal jugs you used to get at school. We'd have been up by christmas.

When I was at middle school a mate of mine had some kind of pie (though it probably more resembled dog shite hot pot) whilst I ate my ham sandwich. Within 5 minutes of being out in the yard he was through on goal before promptly stopping and vomiting the whole pie back up. One of the most vile things I’ve ever seen.

barnsley are fantastic at what they do but they started planning for this around 2005 with a long-term view. they've probably brought in £20-25m+ in transfer fees from their academy graduates, with heavy sell ons too. one of, if not the best run academy in yorkshire. that long-term planning was what interested the investment and takeover that they've recently had and they'll soon start to reap the rewards even more so than what they currently are.
