Gary Bowyer's first Bradford City press conference

Football management can be a lonely business. However the important bit is what happens on Saturday and the rest of the games until the end of the season. The rest is froth.

Don’t know too much about him other than his record on paper, which indicates that he knows what he’s doing and has good experience of managing in the lower leagues and navigating clubs through difficult circumstances. However, I don’t really remember seeing his previous teams play so can’t comment on his style of football or tactical nouse. But it can’t get much worse than we’ve already had this season. Hopkin had a dreadful start and dreadful end, with a short lived upturn in the middle. Let’s hope Gary can get us firing a bit quicker and try get us out of trouble.

 

After watching his press conference, he comes across as quietly confident. Calm and reassured, which I like. Whether this will help lift the players confidence I don’t know, but if anything will this type of approach will. If the players can stop panicking and play like we know they can, then it is quite possible for them to go on a winning run.

Gary has genuine respect for our club, that came across loud and clear, you didn’t get the impression he was here marking time, but was geniunly excited about the opportunity to manage City. Let’s see what Saturday brings.

He talked about fans having an impact on games, and it has been flat at VP of late, rightly so. What I have noticed we start off well, but as soon as the other team score, the fear that we will collapse is palpable. We need time as well to restore the noise factor. It will come, if the panicking stops.

 

My guess is he wanted everything to be about football matters.

Fans please get it into your head that the club is in a mess and in danger.

Maybe, Rhodes didn't want face questions about O'Comnor, Rupp, ownership etc.

 

That's a good point Fordy. If we want to get out of the mess on the field, the last thing a new manager needs during his first press conference is questions about matters off the field - which likely would have been asked if Julian had been there. Not saying Bowyer would have had to answer them, they would have been directed at Julian no doubt, but it would have been a distraction and would have brought negativity to a situation that needs positivity more than ever.
