As a self prescribed ‘happy clapper’ I’ve remained defiant that things will turn around for us. However today feels like a line in the sand moment. Based on nothing but deluded hope, I really thought given a stronger squad (albeit not fully fit) we would have enough to at least get a point - against a bogey team/opposition manager or not. The final result has simply pushed me over the edge.

Firstly I wasn’t there, so my comments will remain subjective as they can be, but with the greatest respect to Accrington, how have we fallen so low? That is the question I want answered by the current owners.

We are 3rd bottom of league one. THIRD BOTTOM OF LEAGUE ONE.
At what point did the owners grand 3 year plan evisage we would come out of this absolute tripe and all of sudden motor up the league? We have virtually digressed EVERY year since they arrived.

How do the owners explain this mess we’re in and repair the void they have created since joining?
I feel we have the right manager/coach. What’s next on the road to repair?

When the players are signed by and out of touch former failed manager (Abbott) and footballing decisions are made by a man with no experience of the English games or the lower leagues, it will always go wrong in the end.

Put the right people in place and step back. Leave it to the manager to sign his own players unless you have appointed a clear structure and hierarchy that does not involve yourself with a realistic budget to achieve their goals

I don't see a way out at the moment. I think Hopkin was as good a chance as we were going to get and even that seems to be going the same way as everything else. How much lower can we sink? Much lower, is my guess.

I think the summer deluge of incomings and outgoings has left us with a squad of players with absolutely no affinity with our club and it shows.

Professionals? Well,I am not convinced. The talk continues and the kidology continues along with injuries which I think are down to very poor pre season and poor fitness training.

It's like a very poor assesment has been made after last season. The melt down was tackled by shipping everyone out and hoping a whole new team and bench players would gel and create the spirit within the squad you need but it's not happening and I am really concerned now that the "corner" we need to turn is disappearing into league 2.

We are becoming a soft opponent for any team and we have no home advantage as we're awful and injecting confidence into whoever we play and this will get harder every game.

It won't be long before any confidence DH has in the team and himself will dissolve and it will be like a struggle to reach the Jan window in the vain hope we will still have a slim hope of getting quality players (if they'll come) to get us out of trouble.Start praying I think we are going to need divine intervention....

I think the damage was done at the start of the season, I don't think we can expect Hopkin to turn things around with the current crop of players.

Personally I don't think any consideration was given to how this team would fit together. There does not appear to be a leader in the squad and the players as you said "city man" seem to be a bunch of individuals. Add to this the internal atmosphere that still surrounds the club and you have a toxic mix of hopelessness which appears to have spilled out onto the pitch.

I don't think we will see the kind of team mentality we had when Parky was in charge but lets hope the JAN window will bring in a few players that can turn things around.

I personally would bring back Macarten get rid of the current crop of loanee's and bring in a target man (remove Brunker) strong midfielder (Captain material) and a centre back as a bear minimum then build round that.

Think you have hit the nail on the head with AFFINITY no member of the club either player or staff
have anywhere near the compassion for the club the supporters have the last being James Mason who by all accounts was glad to get away
We have no local born players no local business man at the helm who understand how special and exactly what this clubs means to the fans. We have mainly young players who probably only signed because we were once a premier league club and the promise of first team football if only to put them in the "shop window".
We are run by business men ????
Who are looking to turn a profit at every angle Sunderland fans in the Midland Road and also the banqueting suites goes a long way to prove this. However it's a poor business man who oversees his investment sliding into oblivion (which in L2 it will) Without considering abandoning pre conceived ideas in favour of the tried and trusted which we had before they took over Its a sad sad state of affairs the club have no connection with the fans I for one rattled buckets took part in fund raising during our last admin how many would do it now with the present en cumbents in charge Our current situation without a drastic u turn could prove very serious for our club should we drop to L2. Income from season tickets would halve over night sponsorship would be worth less and less etc etc etc
What can be done is anyone's guess but I feel something has to change and quickly

Mcarten walks into this side - as would Killa - Collins/Edin should be embarrassed with these calls.

What’s next? A coup. Or whatever the equivalent of forcing out deluded, incompetent, malignant football owners is.

It’s going to have to get worse before it gets better. This season is essentially a write off. I’ll be amazed if we don’t go down.

We need open revolt in the stands - none of this ‘don’t risk denting the players confidence’ bollocks. There needs to be a clear message to force an agenda of ownership change. We need a longer term view than foolishly beliveing there’s a short term fix.

Agree re Mcarten. However given some of the stick he got from disgruntled supporters last season (some it warranted) how enthused will he be to come back?

I tried to be open minded Re Killa however I’m now fearing this is one of the worst decisions. I think if anyone could have connected fans to players, even if he wasn’t starting, it was him. Perhaps even a confident Hopkin could have used since joining. This is even before discussing the fact he would probably walk into our defence at moment!

So in the short term, we expect to see Mcarten back in Jan? I really hope so.

Have you read McArtens tweets? There’s no way he’s coming back here.

On what basis would Mcarten walk into this side? Terrible decision to get rid of Kilgallon and Law though.

I haven’t and cant seem to see them. What’s the jist, or do I even need to ask?!
So if you don’t foresee him coming back, assume we sell, what do we realistically get for him? Then what is the owners plan to fund replacements?

Totally agree re Law, said it all along. Seeming to be a hit at Exeter, albeit in a league below.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence teams were asking after him last season and the best side I. League two signed him and he’s flourishing in that league.

We had a good player but didn’t give him the chance. Another one who was unfairly judged and slagged off here

This is a terrific post and sums up how amateurish the club really is. When it's put as bluntly as this comment above, it's obvious that this was always going to happen. Absolutely no experience and professional structures in place and this is what Edin has single handedly done to OUR club. He's toxic and he needs to go now.

We didn't have a good player. McCartan was garbage.

He scored one good goal at home around Xmas (Oxford?).

    He contributed very little else.

Your opinion that "we had a good player" is based on so very little. You can't have made that assessment from his performances on the pitch, surely? There might be an argument that he should have played more (I disagree personally) but whether he would have eventually come good or not if he did is anyone's guess and has a large element of hope attached to it. Allegedly doing well in league 2 when he has already been successful there is hardly a solid argument to support the notion that he'll walk into the current team.
