Quite agree .......... We don't want another Danny Devine situation. Slowly, slowly it should be.

Lets not forget that essentially he isnt/wasnt our product. He was only released a short time ago by leeds. We can't claim he is a stand out product of our academy and if he were to leave at any point, any profit would be divvied up with them buggers

There is a saying if you are good enough you are old enough. Let him keep on training hard with the other youngsters and if he shows he has the quality train with the first team has he has for the past fortnight. And then if a chance comes hope he takes it. In the past this club has been loathe to give youngsters a chance unlike other clubs

Absolutely right. Omari spent 12 months at one of the best academies in the EFL - Barnsley - after being spotted playing in non-league football. He will have received some of the best coaching available in the EFL and been under the scrutiny of Cat 2 coaches, analysts etc who will know how to spot natural talent and more importantly, potential. The fact he was released after 12 months at Barnsley speaks volumes. And we believed we were capable of creating something with him despite our own training and coaching facilities running a poor second to the likes of Barnsley's.

It doesn't speak volumes as Barnsley were a championship club at the time so dropped a division to try kick start his career.

Wouldn't be a great deal of cash
Compensation is paid on the duration of attendance at Academies

    Interesting case here

Barnsley have a Cat 2 academy. There are 9 Cat 1 academies in the FL, 17 Cat 2's and 40 Cat 3's (including ours). Based on the most recent figures available (2016/17) Barnsley are ranked 12th out of 17 Cat 2's when it comes to the number of players (21) they have developed currently playing pro football which equates to 22nd out of 66 FL academies (they are above Cat 1 Brighton but below Cat 3 Orient and Wimbledon). Bradford City are ranked 51st by this metric with 11 players.

However, and it's a big however, 10 of Barnsley's academy products are playing in the National League and if you rank them based on players playing league football (11) then their figures don't look anywhere near as good. Out of the 17 Cat 2 academies they come dead last, behind 9 Cat 3 academies and drop to 35th out of 66. Bradford City are ranked 40th by this metric with 10 players.

If we look at the figures for players currently at L1 or above (8) which is probably the range that we're most interested in then they climb to 16th out of the 17 Cat 2 academies and stay in 35th position over all. Bradford City are ranked 31st by this metric with 9 players.

When it comes to spotting talent capable of playing at L1 or higher then our academy has currently got a better record than Barnsley's so I'm not going to worry too much about us taking on a player that they didn't like, especially when the player in question is still young enough to play in academy football but is starting to break in to 1st team football and despite having only 485 minutes of 1st team action under his belt has already got 3 goals and 1 assist.

kid cast aside by championship team gets picked up by us and our master plan of developing the kids no one else wants. gets a game in the cup because we have no players - scores a penalty in a shoot out.

suddenly he's first team material and we'll make a fortune off him.

I'm not saying City fans are prone to over reactions but....

Hopkin speaking quite highly of him too. Worth a chance

Not saying he’s going to be any good but can’t be worse than bribing Isherwood on in there like we did vs Charlton

That's all well and good, Park - We did the same with Devine. Unfortunately, as players came off the sick list, Devine was dropped like a brick. Lessons to be learnt, huh ? ;)

There is no good news at our club so we are left looking for and clutching at straws in the hope we find something to give us hope. I was at the game last night and left with the impression that the standard was similar to one of our reserves sides at any time in the last few years. I like Hopkin and I think he will improve us but really he has n’t got much to work with. How many of last nights squad would have broken into any one of our teams in the last five years? Just the fact that our coach was actually coaching during the game has become a positive. Jeez! It is spectacular how far our fall and expectations have become.

I know it's a tough gig playing for City at the moment How, but have we now resorted to bribery ? ;)

Perhaps we should pay a better basic

Sounded like he had a steady game last night? Listened to a bit on the radio and seemed to be able to pick a pass out and defended well enough while I was listening.

to be fair, if it was The Pulse - they could make Omari Patrick sound like Cristiano Ronaldo.
