I'm going to go out on a limb here based on the dozens of other reports and speculate that sky might have made a mistake here. Mental, I know!

 

No the ref grows and maintains the pitch at Barrow.

 

I feel sorry for any city fan caught up in this utter fiasco. A lot of time and money wasted when it could have been handled way way better.

 

Barrow last played at home on 13 February.

I'm curious to know if this part of the pitch was a problem then, if they were advised that it could be a problem or if its only become loose and unstable somehow in between the last match and this one.

 

But according to wetherby whaler the keeper told him the pitch was worse last time out and the ref was quite happy to let the game go ahead as normal.

 

Reading between the lines it seems the groundsman had no reservations and neither did the official checking the pitch before today. Seems to boil down to one man's interpretation of what is acceptable, unfortunately he's the one who calls the shots.

Yeah read that bit. There must have been enough movement of the grass surface to give the ref something to think about? Does seem a bizarre situation for the grass to suddenly become mobile enough to endanger player safety after recent games went ahead OK.

Aye I know but I'd imagine that's just a lazy auto fill drop down entry. I can't imagine that the officials class the pitch as 'waterlogged'. All the actual written reports say 'unplayable'.

The rules for deeming a pitch playable or not are pretty binary. If the ball doesn't bounce it's not playable. For those that know it was a bad decision to call this game off, would anyone change their mind if they'd seen this in the pitch inspection?

Pete Wild sums it very well in this interview after the postponement with Radio Cumbria.

 

So the ball wasn't bouncing in the area? Interesting that he used our game the other night as an example. I remember thinking, if a high ball lands and doesn't bounce then this is getting abandoned. It didn't so the game was able to finish. I'm not sure where the confusion lies. If a referee bounces the ball during a pitch inspection and it doesn't bounce the games getting called off.

 

They get all of their information automatically filled by information from the press association which also provide the content for the likes of Sky Sports just like they do for the match reports. The match report of Forest Green vs Tranmere on BBC and Sky Sports are exactly the same.

 

Absolutely , certainly not waterlogged , but the EFL would hardly permit them to put dangerous playing conditions according to the match official? Not sure what else they could use.

Ultimately however, the Referee's decision is final in this scenario.

 

Lol the pitch would need to be flooded for the ball not to bounce. This is league 2 football, not the champions league. Funny how both managers seemed happy for it to go ahead. But then I see league 2 refs week in week out after watching City for years so nothing surprises me.

 

I'll have another listen but I'm sure their manager literally said that the ball didn't bounce. That's a complete right off. Even on the worst pitches (ours on wed night) the ball bounces.
