I wander if theres anything in the coaching manuals about playing players in there natural positions, if there is he's missed that one.

Agree Faithful a lot will give him a break
I presume he will be allowed to use the tactics, formations he wants he stands or falls by them
As for players who don't perform that reverts back to the system How fed up must Charlie Wyke have been last season playing the lone striker roll and in some cases being criticized or not scoring enough goals I understand Doyle started to show the same frustrations yesterday That's down to the " Head Coach" and his tactics not the players
Hope it's not a lesson not learned

It's the 'modern' way of utilising versatility ....... Unfortunately many use that beyond the maximum, and strike out.
Like driving a Diesel, expecting Petrol performance. Sorry - but Diesel 'flatlines' much quicker, as the governor kicks in.

Exactly and that's just what we saw yesterday...the lads got a stiff learning curve in front of him, For all our sakes lets hope he learns it.

It would have to be self taught nobody with a proven managerial background to guide him
Maybe he should study videos of Sheffield Uniteds title winning season for a few pointers
Think back to our successful Seasons none involved playing a lone striker
    Goals win games

    OK ......... So I exaggerated a wee bit ! ;)
Yet listening to Radio Leeds, the goal from Bradshaw was coming, long before he scored. The threat and intent from Barnsley was apparent from the KO. :)

Was hoping Doyle alone would score at least half that total
but not a chance without someone to play alongside him

There is a lot of training and coaching required - thrown with some good wins needed to boost confidence. He needs to watch some of last season's VP performances on how teams hit you on the break and won games. Nothing has really changed based on yesterdays performance teams taking points away from VP assisted by individual players in the city team making errors. I for one hope we will see an upturn in VP performance but with "superior players" we have available. Playing the long ball time and time again will not work with Doyle up front as we saw the ball did not stick and gave momentum back to Barnsley.à

Oh I don't know Ronnie, they've just given him a new 4 year deal, maybe they will want to loan him out this season to aid his 'development' ;)

Stop being a drama queen! We won't be playing last year's play off finalists and teams that were in the championship last year every week, we'll score plenty when we get going.

In fairness, @Tony Wilkinson@Tony Wilkinson does have a point. As soon as MC realises City have to play two up front - I agree with you .......... We'll score more than a hat full. :)
(Here's hoping for a great loan striker signing, to end our lone striker issue ;))

It still surprised me that people complain about us playing 1 up front when it's probably the most common formation in today's football. Especially with teams who want to possess the ball which supposedly we do.

It's like we've walked into the set of Mike Bassett England Manager sometimes. Four, four fecking two!!

And Barnsley played as a team who knew instinctively where their teammates were and what they were about to do. It showed how little their squad has changed since they were relegated. On the other hand, we looked like a team who had barely played together previously and for that I blame the poor pre-season. The positive side is that that understanding will improve as the team gets more game time together.

Nope. I know that teams can play 2 up front and be successful so don't see the relevance. There's lots of different ways to win football matches.

I was pointing out that teams can also be successful playing 1 up front but a number of posters on here treat anything other than 4-4-2 as being akin to giving up on the game.
