Agree with you.

It's a short career. He, all the players, the coaching staff, know what the craic is. He's protecting himself for a move and I don't blame him. No one wanted him at the start of the season and he packed his bag off to Swindon and showed that given a chance he can score goals. Well done to the lad. Its a shame we won't see him play for us again but I've nowt against him.

 

He won't score 16 goals with us. Not even half that in the last 20 games.

He would most obviously take the place of Smith. In the last two games, Smith has had two chances. No striker scores with every chance. We haven't been creating enough chances for him to score. Our problem isn't that Cook and Smith are missing sitters, the problem is we're creating no chances for them. Putting Young in the team will not help us unless we create more chances.

It doesn't matter if it drags on though because he hasn't been with us and playing for us. We have a team without him. It would be a nuisance of he left on the last day as we can't reinvest the funds but if that's the way to get the best and highest offer then I don't care if he leaves on deadline day.

 

That is your opinion Bots, you may we be right we'll never know because I don't think the club have the balls to keep him all they see is ££££ going around in their eyes.
Not sure its because we don't create chances : both Cook and Smith have been guilty of missing chances in recent games.
Well I'm glad your not concerned if it drags on to the last day, the club hoping to get better offer that may not materialise do we go back cap in hand to the club who originally made the best offer before we turned them down, they would laugh in our faces, or tell us that offer was not now on the table as they then hold all the aces.

 

Which bit is my opinion?

Have you seen Cook and Smith missing loads of chances? Of those 20 shots on target in 3 matches, very few were very good chances. Just because the stats say we had 20 shots on target (which is low by the way for 3 games) doesn't mean any of them were decent chances. Get the xg stats back.

Also, Young hasn't been playing for us, right? We have 30 players without him. If we go through the next 22 days and he is still here then great, we use him for the rest of the season. There's no loss for us. We've recruited a team to play without him. If we sell him, great, we get the money, if he stays, great, we add him to the squad. There's no loss either way.

 

Harrogate may be interestd in him as we seem to be their feeder club

 

The thing with Young is he can create chances for himself. He might add more goals than Smith or Oliver. Irrelevant, though, as he looks like he’s off

 

Keep hold and if we dont get the price we want then see how it goes. As someone said we haven't lost amything as he wasn't scoring for us anyway. If he is playiing the fool and keeps doing so after the deadline has passed just pick him and if he refuses to play fine him two weeks wages

 

I most certainly do not want this dragging on for 20+ days. I think it is effecting the squad. I imagine it as unwanted distraction. We have players who will be moving on and hopefully players arriving. Sparks needs to let other clubs interested in Jake that any potential bids need to be by a certain date after that it will be too late.

 

If our club spared even 5% of that 100% 'sustainability' mantra towards ambition then we would be doing everything in our power to keep Jake, get him in the right frame of mind for these last 20 matches and see if he can fire us into the play offs.

Offer a lucrative bonus if we do and give him a guarantee of a move if he still wants it come June.

 

Contracts don’t work like that

 

So give him extra for sticking to his contract and then let him go on the cheap in the summer

 

That would go down well with the rest of the squad!

 

If he is in the right frame of mind to stay and he continues scoring, he will be worth a lot more to us both now and in the summer. If the rumours are true about Exeter and Port Vale being the clubs interested in him, he will be going on the cheap anyway.

 

So if they are the only two thus far and only willing to offer peanuts…..what does that suggest …….?

With a 20% sell on clause, wouldn't be the worst deal ever

 

If, and of course remains a big if, all this is causing the squad to be unsettled then it's time to get rid. No one player, however talented, is bigger than the club/team/squad

Both Cook and Smith have missed their share of easy chances recently Yes, Crewe both players missed chances Smith toe pokes his chance wide and failed to hit the target with his one on one against Crawley. and Cook has missed his fair share this season many commenting last seasons Andy Cook would have buried those chances, the stats I posted were from our last 3 games where we created several chances, but sorry Bots neither you or I know what the outcome would be if Jake Young stays and plays on a regular basis.
