Have to disagree ref Akpan, he made some terrific hard challenges and looked a class above our previous midfielders. Agree with the doyle situation, he needs support. Payne needs to release quicker once the hard work is done. Mellor needs to give his shirt to Mcgowan next week.

 

Looked a good championship team? They have a weaker team than when they was relegated as they haven't signed anybody and no longer have the loan players from last season

We've got Scannell, Payne, Doyle, Seedorf and Miller in the same team.

Should be fun!

 

I was right in front of it and it would have been harsh to give a pen. Scannel did dive and look for it. IMO.

 

Maybe work in 4 4 11. Didnt work in a 5311 as we never got enough players forward

 

I'd play Miller and Doyle up top with Scannell wide.

Wouldn't play Seedorf at this point, unless I dropped Payne.

Don't see where Payne fits in just yet.

 

I think Miller and Doyle is worth a shot, but I'm thinking Payne is a must play whilst fit loan. Given that I'd have Payne just off Doyle. Payne' s first touch is deceptively good. Payne today also seemed to struggle due to the space between Doyle and himself. His first touch invariably enabled him to beat his first man (this was generally a Barnsley midfielder) however he turned straight into a spare centre half and sometimes a full back as well as Doyle was upfront by himself. I'm thinking if Payne plays just off the CF then his first touch should enable him to lay off, play in or turn and run... It should be noted I've had multiple Balti Pies and quite a lot of military grade rum...

 

We need a striker desperately Doyle cannot be allowed to be played like that again we won't even see him get into double figures this season playing like that he is not a target man I'd have stuck Kai on personally. We'll struggle to get a decent target man in on loan but we need it.

In Collins defence he realised they were getting down the sides of us far too easily and that Riley was in over his head and changed it. I was disappointed with Wright and Akpan today to be honest they didn't really affect the game at all, Seedorf looked bright when he came on but got injured and was limping. Both Chiksen and NKP were at fault for both their goals today I'd like to see McGowan in next match.

Having said all that I think they were the best side I've seen at VP for a while they look a step above league one we wont face that kind of test every week.

Shame we couldn't have Charlie and Doyle in the same team.

 

Why do you feel Payne is a must play, out of interest?

He spent the latter half of last season as an impact sub, and the first half at a poor Oxford side.

In fairness, he's the only one who looks like creating anything. Struggled today against a midfield who dominated our lacklustre and ineffective midfield. He can't do three men's job in there by himself.

Last week when our midfield was able to tackle, press and pass forward, he shone.

 

It's a fair question, and it's only my hunch but I just think that he came to us out of the blue as it we're, he's quality but dare I say it without him we might naturally field a more balanced side. I did also see some stuff on here copied from Twitter that he's here purely to be in the shop window, not taking that for granted though.

One thing i would like to hear from the head coach is double training sessions.

Working wonders with Bielsa and his lot at the moment and should help this team of strangers get on the same page.

Team looks way too lightweight for me but those wanting another central midfielder, a mobile one, is Reeves coming back to fitness yet?

If we dont come across too many big,physical teams we might be ok-ish.

People need to realise that Barnsley have just played a championship season together and are a finely drilled out fit, playing week in week out together.
Our squad is going to take time.

 

NPK & Chicksen shouldn't start again IMO.
Doyle wasted as a lone striker.
Think Payne trying tricks is ok, if they came off all of the time he'd be playing at a higher level,his unpredictability worries teams,perhaps not Barnsley but certainly did Shrewsbury.
We will easily be a top ten side this season.
Keep the faith.

 

If Barnsley play like that all season theyll finish in top two for sure.
