I think you are right Bronco. The other bit of the equation is ST sales and marketing, the beginning of March is only a couple of months away!! For this reason alone, Sparks will be minded that he needs to promote some positivity amongst us fans over the next few weeks.

GA on Jake's return - 'it is like getting a new player without spending any money, happy days'. He wants him to be a city player, and said quite early on in his tenure that the plan was to bring him back in January. I hope he is allowed to keep him, but I fear he won't be.

I feel so strongly about this, if we sell him I will for probably the first time ever consider not buying a season ticket. We have been in this league for 5 years, and the promises of being ambitious are wearing pretty thin.

The figures mentioned are irrelevant because we are an 'undisclosed fee' club, so no one will be any the wiser as to how much we receive.
We must keep him or else the club will lose all faith among the supporters.

The rule is that a player can't be registered for more than 3 clubs in 1 season and can't play for more than 2 clubs so if he's an unused sub then he's still fine to play for another club this season. Even if he played we could still theoretically sell him but it would mean if he wants to play again he needs to be loaned back to us or Swindon.

Personally I can't see a situation where he is on the bench and doesn't play. If we are considering offers then we just don't include him in the 18 and use the injury excuse. Putting him on the bench with the intent of not playing him wouldn't go down well with him and won't go down well with the fans if we are needing a goal with 20 minutes left.

This will be (if my memory serves me well) the first time Ryan and the club have been in a position of having an asset for sale, apart from kids who have left to be developed by teams in the Premier League etc, although hearing he did well with regards the fees but more the add ons given they develop their careers,
Jake unfortunately got little chance to show what he was capable of for Bradford City because of reasons we're not privy to but it was pretty obvious for whatever reason Hughes wanted rid.
It would have been interesting to see how this situation had been handled if Hughes had still been at the club, the way he was treated preseason was as I've posted before IMO poor man management from Hughes.
Playing with the kids for 45 minutes at Park Avenue then not going with the rest of the squad to Spain being told it would be best for all concerned for him to find another club, Hughes not being happy when Jake turned down 2 approaches from no league clubs before Swindon came knocking, how embarrassing would that scenario have been for Hughes.
I couldn't see Hughes backing down so it would have been sell him or allow Swindon to expend his stay and possibly face the same situation in May.
I've said the money mentioned of £200,000/300,000 I'd sell but reading various posters comments with regards other players with similar or worse stats in some cases maybe that figure is a little on the low side.

They are also basing their argument on Wimbledon wanting £1million for Al Jazerra or whatever he is called. If and when they sell him I would put very good money on it being "undisclosed" and in reality nowhere near a million.

There isn't a single player in L2 who is worth anywhere near a million even on a good day, and on a bad day, most L2 players would stink out the Dog & Gun first team.

I'm not sure posters on a forum have any input into the valuation of a player.

Tom Pope had one good season but still scored at nearly one in three across his career and never got anywhere near the value some are calling Young at.

Nahki Wells scored 42 in 91 games across two & a half seasons for us.

Wrexham would struggle to get £500k for Paul Mullin if they sold him, because he's never proven himself above L1.

Young has had five good months. Anyone thinking we could get anywhere near a million should check themselves in to Lynfield Mount.

He’ll have an opinion / a preference but it counts for nothing. What’s he gonna say to Sparks / Rupp..if you sell I quit? Don’t be daft

It will be interesting to see what Wimbledon finally get for Ali Al-Hamadi as we know what Wimbledon want and what they get are two completely different things.

Again, why would we base our asking price on others who've failed? It's a defeatist attitude. We have plenty of leverage on our side and should be driving a good price. 22 years old, 2 and half years on his contract, one of the most prolific strikers in the country this season - if you can't push for a decent fee now, when can you? Added to which, January is a sellers market. We should be demanding 500k as a bare minimum and if its anything less, let him go back to Swindon if he doesn't want to play here. He could taper off, and he'd still be worth at least 300k in the summer.

We have to stop basing all our thinking on worst case scenarios and start walking the walk.

Agree to disagree. Fall outs do happen, of course, but its a symptom of how we're run as a club, as I see it.

My theory and points are it's a free hit so we need to maximise it fully............no one on here quoted Jake being such a success or valuable commodity after Barrow so let's just cash in. Unless he wants to stay ? Not sure he does but thats my opinion. Once your patch is messed up /diasgreements with MH etc it's very hard to commit to it fully.

It counts for nothing? You really are naive.

Allsorts of implications going forward if they completely dismiss GAs preference and sell players against his will.

Never suggested that........but if the club sells for £300k and youve got fans like Park happy, then it shows the small club, unambitious mentality, around the place.

This is the thing. Whether people think 300k is a fair price or not, the fact is that promotion out of this league is worth far more to the club than that, and we have a player that could help us achieve that without costing us a penny. If we did sell him, who on earth do people think we are going to bring in instead that provides the same goal threat?

The money in the EFL is probably double what it was for Pope and Wells at their pomp in L2. Sparks himself said our promotion budget in 2013 was one of the best in the league at the time at 1.7m and this seasons squad had another million on top of that budget. Nobody is bidding for Mullin, he signed a new deal last week on more money and he was rumoured to be on £6k a week beforehand, he's probably earning top L1 money now, no need for him to move as nobody in L1 could match his money and what it would cost to buy out.

£500k 10 years ago is probably near a million the market these days, just the way football has gone, even at this level.

    For those interested in stats

    https://footystats.org/players/england/jake-young

We've seen Jake play before and the coaching staff will have their opinions. I was in the camp of leaving him out of the team and see where he's at and how he trains until he's fully recovered from his injury, but his stats are excellent compares to either Smiths or Cooks. It's not like he's missed loads to score his goals.

Why, I have had my managers fall out with staff and visa versa. If after mediation by me ,they couldn’t settle their differences , for the sake of the business and “ team , one would always be moved by agreement . On the contrary that’s a well run business surely?
