Barnsley (H) - August 11th

It was not a penalty.

 

Come on Fordy. Sometimes you have to give the opposition the praise they deserved. Yes, we looked clueless at times, but take nothing away from Barnsley, they were very good..

I prefer to judge the new look City after a few games playing the likes of Wycombe, Burton and Southend, that we have coming up.

Personally, not too disheartened tonight

 

Not from the kop. Looked like scannel just fell over. Should have been a goal kick too

 

Couldn’t understand the improvement we made last week when we went to 442 and how we ignored that and went back to the other less effective system.
Wright poor, takes a place up in the 11, Riley lost in that wing back role (if that’s what is was supposed to be), neither here nor there but was happy when they addressed that early, big boot to Doyle was useless.

 

First home game and derby against a team that's just come down in front a good crowd then I expect a better performance.

Worse though the manager looked out of this depth.

 

Is that even possible?

 

Now we all know you don’t go to matches. Barnsley were strong, organised and far better than anyone else at vp for getting on for two seasons

 

Go take up knitting you'll be better at that because you know naff all about football.

 

I'm hoping that it was a case of Barnsley being really good. If they were just a top 6 team then we're miles behind.

To me we looked disorganised and like we were hoping for something random to happen rather than having a structure and a strategy. All of the attacking players were particularly disappointing.

 

Agree with that. Wright is no Gary jones is he ? Payne reminds me of Chris Brandon and neither Riley or chicksen are wing backs. Go 442 and stick killa back in with nkp at left back.

Scannell and seedorf on the wings. Akpan in the middle with Payne in the “Gareth Whaley” role. Doyle and a new striker up top.

Is peter crouch available on loan ?

 

Said the same, Barnsley broke forward as a unit and at times had more men in the box than we did, I thought Doyle was hung out to dry very little support as you say we didn't get forward when we had the ball, Moore and Bradshaw were a hand full, backed up by the likes of Potts, Mowatt, and Thiam they look a very good going forwards.

 

Don't need to know anything.

Just need to accept our manager was clueless and Bradford City were shi&e today.

Do be deluded.

 

Credit where credit is due. Barnsley bossed us and we were beaten by the better team.

They had the better luck today with where the ball dropped and the ref didn't help either

However, we won't be playing teams like Barnsley (who on this team's strength and performance, will be close contenders to go straight back up) every week.

I think the signs are there that with a little tweaking, over the season, we will do OK.

 

Its clear that you have rose tinted spectacles on cos you just are not giving Barnsley any credit for the way they controlled large parts of the game.

You have largely unrealistic expectations and that's fuelling your eternal pessimistic slant on City.

 

If you are judging by todays game then i would disagree. Barnsley won’t have an easier game than this all season. I don’t think they even got out of second gear, i believe they will get even better than that. Make no bones about it, that was a pretty poor performance regardless of the opposition. There are mitigating circumstances, new squad, quality opposition etc, but today we were battered for most of the game. I wany Barnsley to be the benchmark for where we want to be heading, not the average teams in the division. I expect Collins to work on the shortcomings of todays game, hes now tried a few things, the defence looks better with a 4 than a 5 or a 3. We looked better with two up front, the loan striker has not worked in either game so far. He needs to build that team around Payne, another mobile midfielder would help him out.

You are assuming 'we know'.

 

They already had an easier game against Oxford last week.

 

Cannot see any comments from Collins on either T&A or club site - anyone know what he said after the match?
