Last summer the signings were patently shit. Some fans called it but were derided- and yet time proved those fans right.

This summer, recruitment has been much better and fans are generally happy.

It's not that complicated. Leave the shite and rumour to one side; sign good players and the rest looks after itself.

Two out of the three of last year's recruitment commitee are still here. Have they suddenly got much better at it, or did McCall have more of a say in who was brought in than has been believed? Genuine question.

Wasn't the first player he brought in Law? Or certainly very early doors, I think he did have more say than is allowed for.

No I think the money made available and taking the transfer fees out of the wages budget to support the owners strategy of bringing in players to develop and hopefully sell on at a profit effected recruitment of player had a significant effect.. Failed to recruit a decent right sided cb and cover for Wyke. The outcome the signings did not deliver for whatever reason- contributed little to 17/18 campaign and when injuries hit individuals we did not have the quality within the squad to replace them.

Disgusting to try and tar Stuart by saying he had any say in signings.

Next you'll be insinuating he played a part in coaching, picking the team and the tactics and style of play.

I think its a valid question. But I would say that we have seen better recruitment because of a few factors.

First being the wage structure. This is purely guesswork, but I can't believe that players like Scannell, O'Connor, O'Donnell, Doyle would have joined the club on the bonus structured wage system that Edin used to discuss quite a lot. It seems to have gone quiet on that. Have we moved away from that and moved back towards a better basic wage?

Second, trust in the head coach. Collins is Edin's man. The man that fits in to the model rather than the two previous appointments. Its still early days for Collins but Edin knows that he needs to succeed not only for Collins' sake but his own.

Third, Collins contacts. The two signings that put a bit of gloss on the recruitment were Scannell and Payne. Its hard to imagine that Collins wasn't heavily involved in these two signings.

Wasn't that the first season when he had to get players in quickly, I would have thought that closed season McCall would have brought mosf of those players in.
There were many on here screaming about the players and potencial transfer targets Parky took with him to Bolton, so it would have made sense for McCall to get on with bringing players in.

Fair point but your answer also goes someway towards dispelling the myth he had no say.

There seemed an awful lot of draws that season and many wins by the odd goal, perhaps even then we were on a knife edge. Just saying.

    Indeed.

The clamour to appoint him by so many clubs since he got sacked shows how highly regarded in the game he is as a manager.
