Next manager

My main memory of Boothroyd is the look of abject horror mixed with total dejection on his face when Wells celebrated our 3rd goal inside 30 mins right in front of him at the play off final.
Wells had been giving it large about scoring against Northampton and Boothroyd didn’t like it.

It was also his tactical genius to drop Akinfenwa and play Platt so he got exactly what he deserved.

 

All of a sudden Danny Cowley has gone from 12/1 to 3/1 and Dean Holden is back to 4/5. Shows that the bookies don't have a clue and they are just moving prices depending on what is bet on.

 

These markets mean little to bookies. What’s the maximum you can stake? £20?

Only a few small online firms even offer odds on the next manager market as it isn’t worth their while. They might have a few hundred people putting £10 and £20 fun bets on but they trade much bigger markets on other sports, or on ‘proper’ football markets, do don’t really care - really not worth the time referencing these odds every two minutes.

 

You could put my name forward and somebody would put a few bob on.

Because as a CEO, you're not simply an order taker. You have to be a visionary. Sparks isn't. A good manager can take a brief and run a business to a budget without seeking to transform or grow it. A proper CEO would meet the requirements of the owner whilst breaking barriers and driving the club forward. Does ensuring the club doesn't lose money preclude the formation of a proper footballing strategy? Of sorting recruitment? Of selecting managers properly. The owner might not care about the football side of things, but the CEO absolutely should because we're the 'customers' of his business.

Cowley at 4/5 now and
Holden at 3/1

The odds don't represent the reality. So let's just wait and see, eh?!

I posted 4 different screenshots of betting odds all posted within a week that had Holden and Cowley’s odds ranging from 2/5 to 20/1.

It’s just embarrassing now.

 

Boothroyd name released so when they announce Holden everyone will be relieved!

 

Think new manager appointment will be released tomorrow morning.

 

I think Sparks is guilty of putting too much faith in the Manager and not enough to protect the long term interests of the club. Example - We had a Head of Recruitment (Turnbull) who Adams didn't want to work with and we then let Adams bring in his own 3 scouts, who Sparks later found out hadn't been used.
Sparks should be saying 'this is our structure and we need you to work within it'.

 

Erm that is a strategy……..we don’t do strategy at City.

Spot on. That's exactly what a CEO should be doing, and only hiring managers who are prepared to work within that framework.

He's trusted MH's opinion and dished out a lot 3 year deals, that don't look great business.
Trusted the Manager at the detriment of the long term interests of the club.

I think Sparks is sitting at his desk, pressing the refresh button on his email, waiting for Robbie Fowler to apply. Another chance for him to meet a legend in the flesh (I'm talking about Sparks meeting Fowler, not the other way round) and get the fans all giddy cos we've got someone famous at the helm again. Stick a few quid on that, and see Fowler rise to the top of the bookies list!
