    Seems reasonable . We will never know, but it certainly had the desired effect, by design or by luck!

    @Dennis@Dennis @Bigrod@Bigrod

    Should this be moved to general football then?

    With hindsight yes, it probably was the right decision but that wasn't what I thought at the time, back then I thought Hughes had completely lost the plot. However in retrospect, I think Cook was feeling a lot of pressure at the time because he knew if he didn't score, the chances were slim that someone else would. That's a lot of weight to have on your shoulders and I think it did impact on his performance. He never gave less than 100%, but he was missing chances that he would normally bury, so I think taking him out of the firing line and relieving that pressure for a little bit was probably the right thing to do.

    He would have been observed socially and at work and may have been doing things that maybe were hindering him. He was heavily relied on and you know what..... he may just have just been tired... I rate him very highly and I am prepared to say he will get 20 goals at least with the midfield we have put together...... and Hughes knows we need a Banks mark 2. speedster

    Lets not forget Oliver was brought in from League One on a 3 year deal he would have been Hughes first choice unfortunately for Hughes once he brought Cook on in the Barrow game I believe he started sticking the ball in the net and Hughes couldn't bring his love child back, until Cook missed "for him" 3 sitters at Carlisle, then Hughes said he needed a rest.

    The 3 sitters is a myth Bronco. He literally had one chance he absolutely should have buried but the other two chances were both difficult and one of them, the header, was simply too high and he could get over it.

    The bigger concern that day was that the other 10 were also miles off it and once again we'd created very, very few chances.

    Because he's got another 2 years on his contract I'd imagine.

    This thread has degenerated into an mis mash of anything to do with strikers. Sharpe is not going to sign for us or anyone in lg 2.

    No striker who is scoring regularly is ever tired. Never hear of Haaland being tired.

    It’s like he’s only tired and fat when he isn’t scoring.

    Maybe a diet company should recommend scoring goals for weight loss? Could be revolutionary.

    And maybe that current Reading, but former Newcastle, Liverpool and WHU striker - Andy Calorie could be the MD

    Which makes it even more concerning, giving him a rest my arse, same as Hughes brought Banks off 2 minutes after setting up our equiliser at Carlisle.
    I don't think even with better players around him Cook will get near last seasons total but I'd certainly have him down as our leading goal scorer for the 4th season in a row, with possibly around the 20 mark.

    To be honest, He played shit the 3 games before he got dropped, and a lot on here were calling for Oliver to take over. The same people were singing Oliver's praises when he bagged 2 against Salford and scored another the game after.

    All strikers need a rest. Its a 46 game season, packed with midweek fixtures. On one hand, you guys complain that Hughes doesn't rotate enough, on the other, you say he sticks to the same players week in week out. Cook looked knackered during the winter break, an some of his performances showed for it. This isn't me knocking him, every striker needs a little rest to recharge. The rest clearly paid off as Cookie finished the League's top scorer at the end. I don't know why this is a debate
