We’ve ‘enough squad’ players already we need to add quality to the first 11 because last season we clearly wasn’t good enough . I’d be very surprised if this lad is a starter next to Stubbs or instead of platt . We already have Kelly and odusina and now we have Taylor . I hope am wrong but this signing has not improved our squad

It has we conceded more goals from set pieces than any other team last season and we have a relatively small back four so his height and experience will be a help there. And we have had very little input goal wise from our defenders this lad has a history of scoring goals and assists. So even if he is a back up or starter he does add to what we have got

If we’re relying on a 32 year old cart horse for our goals we’re in trouble

Time will tell, I judge on ability not what other fans of other clubs think. Based on Mansfield fans reports , would you AT THE TIME, said exactly the same about Cookie. YES is the answer! I could trawl similar comments up about him but why waste time proving something we already know is more than true. Halliday is another example. Clayton who came in to do a job is another. People rate Foulds, I don’t, based on what I saw, not based on what others think I should believe.

As I said , time will tell. I don’t prejudge. Like any club, some players make a success of a move, some don’t.

Im convinced Taylor will be a starter perhaps with Stubbs (who I rate), we did appear to lack aggression/leadership last season and it sounds as though he has that in his locker.

A centre half that reads the game well doesn't need out and out pace, Timi Odusini has pace and came with a glowing fans reference, look how that turned out.

We conceded 8 goals in 12 games when Stubbs and Platt started together last year so there's absolutely no reason to break that up. Adding some height to other areas of the pitch will help us from set pieces, not replacing one centre back with another.

How do we know that he is a "carthorse"? I personally haven't seen him play yet.

Seen as we’re completing dismissing Taylor’s lack of speed and attitude and he’s going to be the next Ronald Koeman with his goals I thought I’d take a look . Seems to average around 3 a season over all . I really hope we improve the midfield or I feel another long season

there is if the player coming in is an upgrade. Taylor is going to be chosen as a starter over Platt imo.

The ones who have watched him recently aren’t and his last team were keen to resign him

He will be an improvement in the air especially at set pieces and crosses where we were weak last season. Critchlow was good on the deck but got bullied in the air and this with a right back who did well going forward but lacked any pace getting back to defend and got skinned for pace most games and was regularly beaten in the air on his post from crosses were our major weaknesses at the back,
Hughes seems to prefer old heads over young legs which may let us down in league 2 where younger players are blooded trying to making a career but
If he does as well as Rory with the same win at all costs attitude he will become a favourite

Given his experience and recent form with Killie in the SPL obviously yes from me mate.

Thinking about what Taylor brings in his all round game, the goals aspect might ‘only’ be an average of 3 a season, stats show Platt got zero goals and 1 assist in over 40 appearances last season, chipping in goals from centre halfs and a genuine threat in the oppo box on set pieces is important, sharing goals round the team was an area that desperately needed improving.

I see it like you and it's pretty simple. We need to upgrade the midfield from last season and that includes upgrades on East and Gilliead. By all means keep them if the budget allows but that midfield was criminally slow and immobile and that desperately needs rectifying. I can't see Chapman and Walker being below average again, especially if we start with 3 better midfielders. I don't know what Kevin MacDonalds attributes are but I hope it's mobility and go forward, I don't need to see another defensive midfielder.
