    I used to have shares in a all weather horse called and toto too.was a right blast and went through a six month purple patch of winning or been placed all over place.
    Racing is my forte.football is a close second though.

    Back in 1979 Thatcher awarded a 12% - 20% pay rise to HM Forces, back paid for 6 months, which means we got a tidy 'lump sum'. My mate and about a dozen others clubbed together and bought 50% shares in an Irish nag, but were hit by 75% of the vet bills for about a year :eek:
    Anyway - One month her 'boat' came in, and WON both her races. The guys certainly got their money back, and then some. Unfortunately, those were her only two Wins, and was sadly put down later, following a bad fall.
    Taking all costs into account, my mate reckoned they just about broke even.

    Going by number of race horses retired off or shot every year they were quite lucky to break even.?

    Kauto is easily the best chaser of the past 20 years, Nicholls was an absolute powerhouse those days and the Gold cup was an absolute joy to watch him, Denman and then latterly long run duel it out. There hasn't really been a 3m+ chaser since him (Best Mate before him was the closest standard to Kauto that I've seen in my lifetime - but I'm still in my 30s), it looked like Might Bite would have a good chance of emulating him but based on last year he doesn't seem to stay the full gold cup distance (although Native River is tough and it was abnormally heavy ground).

    But not as boring as watching Chess. Who the Hell would do that (out side of the few Chess playing seniors) But as a spectacle ? NO.
