I will defend anyone's right to express their opinion.
Free Speech works for everyone and I'm not a supporter of cancelling people I don't agree with.

No problem with free speech as long as it has substance which Linekers didn't.

Freedom of speech is essential but must always be open to either praise or ridicule .....

He said what he said I think he was wrong and his comments weren't even a close comparison, but if both Shearer and Wright are in solidarity and are not available for Match of The Day I also don't have a problem with either having their contracts terminated by the BBC.

That's fine, I totally agree. Removing someone for it be it Clarkson or Linekar is different to praise or ridicule.

No they are not meeting their contractual agreement, if you didnt turn up for work and when asked why, you reply was I was supporting my workmates right to free speech do you believe there wouldn't be some form of disciplinary action taken against you, he was asked today "did he regret his comment he said no" I think the BBC are well within their right to suspend him until an agreement is reached on his social media use, neither you or me know what conditions they are with regards his contract with the BBC.

I understand you have to be impartial at the BBC.

You can understand why, with the Head of the BBC previously standing as a Tory candidate at a general election, and the Chairman being a Tory donor to the tune of £400k and was put in his job by Boris Johnson after securing him a £800k loan.

You'll probably be moaning when they replace them with tick box female presenters to fill the quota following this.

Because I believe in fairness and behaving in a humane way towards people less fortunate than ourselves. Not everything is about making us stronger.

If you follow your attitude to its logical conclusion it would lead to there being no such thing as seeking asylum from genuine repression, torture etc, leaving vulnerable people to simply suffer and die with nowhere to go to seek sanctuary. You might think that's fine, but I don't.

Since we have internationally agreed rules for seeking asylum it follows that we should take our fair share of asylum seekers, rather than expecting the countries in southern Europe to take them all, simply because they are nearer to the trouble zones. This is particularly the case given that this country bears a larger responsibility than most for carving up our colonial territories in ways that ignored traditional boundaries and have thereby contributed to creating many of the conflicts that exist in former British Empire countries.

Sorry Dave, it's hard to answer all of this. Some of your contributions wander over so much different ground it's very difficult to know where to start.
Suffice to say, we have very different views about the likelihood of the EU giving in to the kind of strongarm tactics you believe would have worked. The EU has consistently stuck to its guns and refused to give into threats from Johnson, Frost or any of the other would-be bully boys.
From where I'm sitting, everything that has panned out since Brexit was entirely predictable and was widely predicted. The fact is that EU workers have voted with their feet. They don't want all the complex paperwork or the anti-immigrant sentiments that Brexit stirred up, so they are choosing to go elsewhere and who can blame them? Likewise, the idea that leaving the EU would result in reductions in illegal immigrants was for the birds, as we've seen. Alienating our continental neighbours was never going to help us in stopping the boats etc.

If you read the article, it clearly says that most of the Albanians are simply economic migrants, coming here for better economic prospects. There's no argument about this - these people are not genuine asylum seekers and need to be either stopped from coming or deported when they get here. But nothing that this useless government does is doing either.

This is where we agree to disagree on this matter.

You've got to be stern and harsh with this subject or you run the risk of being completely swarmed by illegals. You might be happy with that, but I and millions more certainly aren't.

There's a phrase called 'tough sh*t' and that's what applies here. Yes, it's sad that some people live in below-par circumstances and in an ideal world this wouldn't happen but you need to accept it does happen, it's a simple fact of life that some are worse off than others, and you just have to accept it.

When you worry too much about everything else you end up getting walked all over, and that's what's happening with us with the colossal increase in these boats illegally landing on our shores. They're already scaring schoolgirls in some areas causing locals to protest angrilly. They're commiting crimes on our streets. They're using up our services, taking our tax money. Can't get my head around anyone who thinks that's alright.

Of course you don't want to accept Labour made a hash of the 2019 election you thought it was about other things and not brexit.
I don't think I said anything with regards the EU giving in to the kind of strongarm tactics you believe would have worked I said the only card we had left was no deal if that had been played out what the EU did would have no bearing going forward but Labour along with the other parties and the pro EU Tories made sure that wasn't an option.
But you right were going over old ground what happens between now and December 2024 is what the electorate will be watching and voting on.
