I think you're the only person outside the Parliamentary Tory Party who believes that Johnson didn't know what was going on. It's utterly implausible. He was asked a direct question about it and denied all wrongdoing at No 10.
You'll not find me defending Blair over Iraq. I was on the marches protesting against it.

But he lied and he didn't quit so lets not talk like the misleading parliament thing is set in stone. It obviously isn't.

I didn't say I believed him either, if he told me the time I'd check my watch. What I said was there is no proof which is important. There's no point spending a million quid on an enquiry and a policy investigation that doesn't seemingly turn up one email, one text, or one verified conversation that he knew the extent of what was happening and then just go "ah yeah, but he must have done yeah". The direct question he was asked is becoming something of a Mandela effect as well because I've heard it quoted as a number of things.

The key bit is "knowingly misled" so just being wrong - which he clearly was - isn't enough. They need to make that jump into actually showing that he knew and despite all of the resources spent they don't have anything.

The picture holding up a drink, making a toast, was he unknowing at that point? if he doesnt know that that was illegal at the time then he should not be our PM.

You just sound ridiculous. If it was Starmer in the same boat you would be throwing a tantrum.

Yes, he clearly thought it was legal which is probably why he had a photograph taken, reported his action in the press and wasn't even fined for it. Are those the actions of someone who thought they were breaking the law?

You should search this thread for my views on Starmer. I've said over and over that I don't think he was doing anything wrong when he was caught with a beer. Have another go though.

Aside from his cohort of talent free chums in the cabinet who rely on him for a job, I'm genuinely baffled as to why anyone pro tory would be arguing for Johnson to stay on.

Strangely you see the resignation letter but this one has been kept hidden. That leaves more questions and speculation than releasing it.

Is this another piece of Tory chicanery (like the Rwanda refugee nonsense, which has clearly been done to trigger legal challenges and stoke their culture wars agenda against the ECtHR, human rights and 'lefty lawyers')?

"Did Boris Johnson deliberately provoke Lord Geidt into resigning? It is normally best to treat conspiracy theories such as this as fiction, but there is something very peculiar about the request from Johnson to Geidt that triggered his resignation. (See 12.01pm and 1.33pm.) In Downing Street they must have known that Geidt was already very close to resigning, because of Partygate. A Partygate resignation, of course, would be damaging to the prime minister. But, as the Telegraph’s Christopher Hope points out, a resignation by Geidt in oppostion to a policy supported by the Labour party and designed to protect British jobs in the steel industry? Well, that’s not quite such a bad headline."

"No 10 unable to explain why – in apparently unprecedented move – Geidt was asked to advise on legality of tariff policy
And here are some more lines from what was said at the Downing Street lobby briefing about the resignation of Lord Geidt.

The spokesperson was unable to explain why Geidt was being asked to advise the PM on a matter relating to tariff policy. And he failed to give any precedent for Geidt, or his predecessors, giving advice on whether government policy broke international law. One of the odd features of this story is that Geidt was being asked to advise not on the conduct of an individual minister, but on a decision taken by the government as a whole. Boris Johnson said it was a proposal to breach WTO trade rules. (See 12.01pm.) But it is normally for the government law officers to advise on these matters, not the independent adviser on ministers’ interests".

The Bullingdon Bantams will be weeping into their beer down at the Freemasons Arms tonight. As Dave Davies sang "Let's All Drink To The Death Of A Clown".

Looks like the King of Sleaze is on his last legs.

Even Sunak and Javid have bailed on him.

Turns out you can bullshit your way to Prime Minister, but you can't bullshit your way through the job.

I'm associating Pincher being a sexual miscreant with the sheer scummery of this bunch of unprofessional 'party MP's'.

    Get. Him. Out.

Great news! The liar-in-chief should be on his way now. But he'll have to be dragged out of No 10 kicking and screaming.

I could add that there are at least two members of the Cabinet who have integrity and are honourable .. but I won't. They'll see the writing on the wall and can now start their own campaign as his successer. It's self interest on their part.

I do however congratulate Javid on his resignation letter. I hope the PM can feel the knives in his back.

I cant see him getting through the present situation when two of his most powerful cabinet members resign in protest.
