Don't forget SCMP in your calculations. Footballing wages in L2 (excluding U21's) can't exceed 55% of revenue so to enable £425k of wages you would need £772k of revenue to finance it.

The latest accounts show a playing budget of £2.7m against £5.4m revenue (50%) so there is a bit of leeway to increase the playing budget and stay within the rules and based on figures from the previous season in the Deloitte finance report the average ratio in L2 was 66% which suggests that we'd still be in line with the rest of the division if we increased to £3.5m with some good U21's.

Also, Mark Hughes might have many attributes but having a deep knowledge of the L2 transfer market will probably not be one of them. We still need that recruitment hole filling.

I'm not so sure he has. Many general football fans I've spoke to hadn't a clue he was our manager, some were shocked. It hasn't been very well publicised, apart from the appointment day itself (which is easy to miss unless you check the football news pages daily).

Didn't even consider the SCMP being truthful.

    Both could be true.

It could very well be that Hughes simply wants back in, and sees us as a high potential club. Which, run correctly - we are. And therein lies the rub, as we haven't been run correctly for years.

And maybe, to some degree, there's the possibility of interest through Hughes contacts in the background.

Personally I don't see any connection between anything other than Mark Hughes wanting a job. Other talk just seems to be wild conjecture.

My thoughts for a while as well Border. I instinctively felt there was more than Mark Hughes coming in as totally unexpected manager than meets the eye. And still think there's a Hughes-led takeover in the offing at some point.

Great post Fuzzy. Some weeks ago I posted comments from Trevor Birch about this very subject after a conversation I had with him.
Apparently the NL Clubs don't comply with SCMP but were given the option which they declined against the financial free for all of getting into L2. His view was that vote will leave whoever gets promoted with a problem and the rules say that any overspend beyond the 55% you mention has to come out of the pocket of the owner.
Other posts on this forum have drawn attention to the loss made by Wrexham in the latest accounts which I suspect will be worse next time with the signing of Mullin et al. In their case it possibly doesn't matter to the owners that they will have to inject more personal finance but it might at such as Stockport. Very interesting times ahead.

Who cares. I’d imagine it doesn’t matter who owns the club if allegations are true

Personally I don't think any lucrative takeover is on the horizon, with regards to our budget despite all our frustration at SR not pumping what would be small change to him into us to boost the cause I don't think the budget amount is the problem it's the way previously it's been wasted. If spent correctly then we would have a squad at the right end of the table for sure, also despite hearing many times how we will have a competitive budget for next season my only concern is how much of it will be chewed up by having to pay off already contracted dross, It would be great if SR would cover/loan the cash to cover this so the generated budget was the actual spend budget. I've seen a comment also saying some fans are getting too attached to MH, I actually don't have a problem with this as our recent history of constantly twisting has got us nowhere so at some point we are going to have to stick.

The rumor doing the rounds yesterday was Rupp has someone who is prepared to invest money into the club the money will go to Sparkies player budget, the figure of £2m was mentioned, nice if it happends but IMO a £2m loan from Rupp would not break the bank why would he need an fellow investor.

Agree..doesn't make any sense as the investor would be looking for a return also. Buy the Club and invest makes more sense, however £2m good but not enough to get us into the Championship and that is what Rupp should be actively working toward imo.

But if an extra £2million got us to the top of league 2 , you would see average crowds rise to about 18000 , maybe £40,000 extra gate receipts per game £900,000 for the season ,extra sales in the shop and kiosks and probably more sponsorship.
Promotion would bring in even more in league one.
Money is no guarantee of success, Salford are a fine example, but i am sure it could help.
