It was the same when people wanted Hornby in. All they could come up with after a while was that Hornbys distribution was allegedly better.

That's because all the quantifiable stats were edging in ROD's favour but it didn't meet the narrative they were trying to push for months that it was all ROD's fault.

Well, we're on our second replacement for ROD now and we're still conceding the same types of goals. Weird eh?

Don't forget the classic line from last season that Hornby instilled more confidence in the defence and was better at organising players.

Which he is now doing from yet another bench, I assume

He is still the best of the three on our books

All three are much of a muchness. No real discerning difference, haven't seen enough of Bass and the other two are just bang average keepers.

And Bass is a bang average L2 keeper prone to errors.

You are slightly off with your assessment of why Hornby was deemed a better keeper. It was widely acknowledged that ROD didn't command his box and was shit at coming for crosses. Hornby was better at those 2 things IMHO and that's why I wanted him in goal. No narrative as you suggest just my own observations.

As for keeping conceding the same type of goals-well are we? ROD was regularly beaten from shots outside the box. When was the last long range goals(s) we have recently conceded?

As has been said elsewhere all 3 are bang average keepers with differing skill sets-combine them and you have one decent keeper.

Who would I have in goal now? Hornby.

Out of the 3 you'd pick someone who's never commanded a regular first team spot at any club despite being 27 and in professional football since 2015?

And you're suggesting my assessment of keepers is off? :joy::joy:

I have a decent source that says he's 3 or 4 weeks away from a return. How long before he breaks down again is another matter.

And that’s the worrying thing for him, never mind us. There were a few posters on here suggesting (prior to his most recent problem) that he was not sprinting 100% because he seemed worried that the hammy would go. At the time I didn’t put too much in to that idea but when you see the injury that lead to him pulling up, then maybe those posters had a point. I really hope you are wrong Steve but I tend to side with you on this. Sadly I think it’s only a matter of time but I really hope I’m wrong.

Thanks Offy. I can’t see him returning, I sincerely hope I am wrong as we are more effective with him

I bet it's not that interesting. Not enough to repeat the 10's of posts I've already made on the subject anyway.

If you're that interested though there's a search feature within the site.

Was that the classic line Jon although I suspect it was only part of it? The classic line was based around one was willing to come of his line therefore giving the defenders “confidence or reassurance “, whereas the other was always firmly stuck to his line leaving what we now know (hindsight) were poor defenders having to deal with crosses. That was my take on it.

I think we have boiled it down to all three keepers were have in the first team squad are not very reliable in one form or another?

Hes just too immobile, just like Canavan was, Kellherer is and Paudie is. A recipe for disaster against mobile pacy forwards, which we too crave also. Root and branch deforestation of the centre of defence and a sitting midfielder is absolutely no 1 for me.

Ish Killgallon was crucial. Positioning and quickness of thought in the head is important too. Songo doesn't have that

I'd say out of the three keepers we've played, Hornby has made the fewest mistakes leading directly to goals. Maybe that's because he hasn't had the most gametime. ROD and Bass have both come up with some great saves that have prevented goals. Bass comes out, ROD stays put - both leading to errors/goals. If Hughes drops Bass this weekend, then he's slightly going against his post match interview of not blaming the keeper.

Fact is, if Bass hadn't have saved that shot in the dying mins, he wouldn't have given away a penalty in the manner that he did. I'd be tempted to stick with him, in the hope that he ramps his concentration up to make amends for last Saturday. It's not really the right time to be bringing in a keeper who has sat on the bench for weeks.
