Following on from a discussion on a different thread, I thought it might be interesting to see how many people actually value the BBC as a broadcasting service and how many would happily pay for it if it was a true subscription service rather than an almost compulsory purchase.

So if you didn’t pay I’m presuming you would lose access to everything the license fee contributes to rather than just the TV channels

Probably not now I think about it. I can't think of one programme that I'd miss now I think about it.

My missus probably would because she seems to pay for all the bloody rest!

Of course. Clearly it would be difficult to work but the question is only hypothetical.

Not often. I don't get the Bradford DAB where I live.

Even if I did its not like other commercial radio stations wouldn't pick up the rights.

probably go other way and have no coverage. Pulse couldn’t make it work as sole commentators

And if they couldn't then they couldn't.

Like I say I barely listen to it anyway so it wouldn't make a difference to me personally.

That was before ifollow. I imagine the contribution they make for the broadcast makes it more financially viable.

I don't think I'd actually pay for anything if it wasn't compulsory.....Freebies are good.

Fair enough. I still believe the landscape on that has changed though.

I also very much doubt anyone is buying a bbc licence just to listen to Bradford City away games though so it's a probably moot point.

I doubt anyone would buy it for one specific thing , it is the whole package, the TV shows, the Radio, the online stuff, access to freeview, freesat

Agreed. I'm just asking if people would subscribe or not if they were given the choice.

I wouldn't but I'm interested to hear those that believe the BBC gives us value for money.

Yes, exactly this. It's much bigger than just the obvious TV stuff.

I would undoubtedly subscribe. The idea of a world without Radio 4 makes me shiver.

I'm not confident that it will survive too much longer though. Most Tory MPs would like to defund it and I'm sure they'll get their way eventually. For me, it is one of the great British contributions to the world - a treasured institution like the NHS. If it does eventually lose funding, many of the niche parts won't survive commercially (eg World Service) and Britain's international reputation will take a further tumble down the toilet.

I would, I download a decent number of podcasts, watch some TV, use Freeview, use BBC website a lot, and listen to bits of Radio 5 as well as away matches on Radio Leeds.

Don't forget it partial funds the upgrading of broadband especially out of town/city areas

It should be sold off, It no longer is fit for purpose with poor programming, Poor technical ability and seems to think it has a moral obligation to promote minorities at the expense of fair reporting with no effective outside control, It distorts the market and is a burden on the elderly and poor who struggle to pay the fee while it pays presenters and managers hundreds of thousands and some millions of pounds unnecessary.

At just £0.44p a day it provides fabulous value for money and I have no qualms about paying a TV licence.
