Theres this notion that some would be happy to play like that and get the three points. Believe me we play like that again this season and we'll be lucky to get another point. Hopefully yesterday was just one of those games but we desperately need Cooke and Sutton back.

 

I've no problem with that.

The problems I see are the lack of options in centre midfield which led to us over playing Sutton and Watt until they were knackered.

Then the plan of playing both Vernham and Crankshaw in the 3 behind Cook which left us way to open and started us off on that poor run, now the managers have gone right the other way - playing Evans/Clarke/Donaldson/Scales and the result is that it's turgid and we're getting lucky. They need to balance it more with Vernham or Crankshaw coming in to one of those forward three because we're creating next to nothing but fortunately scoring off what we do get - a bit like earlier in when worldies like Novak and Sutton were getting us wins.

 

So a chance then?

 

And yet the league leaders and 3 other promotion chasing sides couldn’t beat them. We did

 

I don't know if that could be called a chance or not to be honest. What about all the pinball moments in our box towards the end of the game - were those chances for them?

It's too hard to measure what a chance is for me but at least we could agree on actual shots or shots on target. With chances we'd argue forever!

 

Yep, we won. That's great.

Also, just for completeness in terms of the point you are making because we don't want you telling half a story - we couldn't beat Stevenage but Salford did yesterday.

Are Salford better than us then?

Course not! Any team can beat any other team on a given day!

 

Let's hope Grimsby prove that point on the 20th and 27th April.

 

Good point Park. As I understand Grimsby were unbeaten in 8 coming into yesterday and we won. Yes, a poor game but we won, the records show 3 points.
Some on here talking about luck, we don't get much e.g. cruising at Newport then the free kick that never was and 3 minutes added to the 4 indicated cost us 3 points, same ref at FGR played over the added time, cost us 2 points. All teams can say similar I'm sure but when we get good fortune we shouldn't do anything but say "about time" and take it with a smile.

 

Scoring more of our chances than the opposition is luck now is it - I thought it was the whole point of the game.

 

Pleaee stop it, they are the worst side in the football league. We have no devine right to win a game but I do not want to see another 90 minutes like yesterday where I can take away no positive whatsoever. If you think yesterday was acceptable then I'll have to agree to disagree with you.

 

The quality of football in this division throughout the full quota of teams is at times downright embarrassing. Even doing the basics is beyond some. I'm animated in my comments about yesterday because I can see a genuine escape from this utterly depressing division this season and I can't describe how desperately I want to see us in league 1 next season. League 2 strips the enthusiasm from you.

 

In fairness, if you flip the statistics, in 8 undefeated for Grimsby they had only won 1 in 8.

But a wins a win.

 

I'm not sure the two things are mutually exclusive.

Are some peoples expectations being subconsciously raised by overexposure to Premier League coverage?
Yesterday I went straight from watching L**ds v Man City, played on a billiard table with moves and passes that literally took your breath away, to The Fighting *@?$ v The Trawlermans Arms, complete with commentary from the chuckle brothers. Maybe people are just expecting too much? We’re an above average side in the basement league, hopefully we can get into the top 7, but we’re not going to steamroller anyone because most teams in this league are on a par. The biggest difference yesterday? We had discipline & team spirit, T&S have instilled a real togetherness, something Hursts players didn’t have.

 

Yes I get that Grimsby were on an undefeated run and even though the first half was hardly a spectical they more than matched us, but once they went down to 10 (we were already a goal to the good) you keep the ball and make the 10 men work, even if it meant possesion for the sake of possesion we would have made chances.
Bradford City rarely make it easy for us fans but if you asked me would I take similar game on Tuesday night off course I would, points are far more important than performances if we want to keep our play off dream alive.

 

But what about a decent level of entertainment, nobody seems to have mentioned this as yet, 3 points yes but is that really the be all and end all of what we as paying customers want, would you go through hell every week trailing down to VP knowing that we'll get 3 points but will be bored stiffless at the same time, don't think so, wouldn't last long anyway...

 

Reading the comments it seems people would be happy to just get three points every week no matter the performance. Personally I watch to be entertained and that usually entails attacking football from either team. If I had to watch that every week I'd find something else to do. Hopefully just a one off.

 

At this stage of the season and where we are it’s points over performance every time if our play off hopes fade then it might be different

 

Sorry to piss on your fire guys but yes more than happy to get 3 points from every remaing game even watching 7 more dire displays like yesterday and I'm dead serious, I'd take our chance in the play offs.
