Thought Paudie did well against Big Jim - he'll have learnt a lot from that sharp elbowed battle. Totally agree about Clayts - best player on the pitch. ROD once again spends bloody ages deciding what to do with the ball. So many occasions this afternoon when he could have been decisive and quicker of thought, set up forward movement much faster. Amazed we didn't make immediate changes at half time after Payne's extraordinary ill-discipline and the red card. God I'd be pissed off with him tonight if I was a Mariners fan.

 

Hes not wrong. We were shite and our system was a mess from start to finish.

Back to Hurst's comments, to be fair with 10 men they had us struggling at times who knows how the game would have panned out with 11 apiece.

 

Poor today Faithful ,but that’s 45 points from 23 games,so they must have got something right in their managerial time here. Compares well with Hursts miserable record since he took over Grimsby.

 

Seriously, if we manage to make the play offs and go up we’ll need to add some decent quality to the squad. Today’s line up showed a lack of pace and creativity. If AOC stays he can only be on the bench I’m afraid.

 

I'm sure Sparks and T&S are well aware of this and will have already identified targets

 

Very poor today. Its a fair point but I'm not really interested in the Hurst and Grimsby side of things. I'm still unconvinced. How much of our upturn is down to restoring basics that were previously missing? I worry about our use of the ball. We need to improve on several fronts next season

 

Just remind yourself Dave in the last two or three weeks the top of the table team the team in fourth place and the two teams just above us failed to beat Grimsby yes the second half in particular was disappointing but once again we got the job done as we have so many times under the dynamic duo I think possession and pressing will improve when Sutton and Cooke are fit and we will hopefully soon have an extra option upfront with Novak

 

Sorry have to disagree on this Aoc so far this season has been pretty consistent playing centre half stood in well at Full back and done a job in midfield and scored the winner today. If he is realistic with his wage demands I think it’s a no brainier we should give him a new contract

 

Depends on what he wants. Personally I would sign him because I think he's worth a contract.

 

I went 2-0 before the game and it should have been that when we hit the bar second half. You huffed and puffed but rarely actually threatened our goal.

For some bizarre reason we sat back and let you have lots of possession second half. We had just about the slowest starting line up we could muster in all honesty.

Only when we made some subs did we actually start to try to attack.

I was reading the posts and thinking what a miserable bunch we have at times. It's as though very few are capable of seeing the sun - because they've been so used to 3 years off grey clouds

 

Yes. The fact they were eight games unbeaten, so clearly have something correct is of course irrelevant. Because we have to beat every team by at least two goals, with that kind of dominance - otherwise the team is rubbish

 

TBH his tactics were marginally better for most of the match. But he totally let his anger and frustration ride his words at the end of the game. I'm sure he was raging inside about Payne and his dander would have been well up from that - who wouldn't be?. But his comments were crass and sounded like the worst kind of sour grapes. But...his job is on the line and Grimsby's football league status. Massive pressure for him. Grimsby go down, he loses his job. Who'll take him on? Football is a fickle old trade.
