If a club, say Peterborough come in and show an interest, then a player and his agent will sit up and take notice. MacAnthony has a track record of getting players big money moves. Now we could be stubborn and say if our demands aren't met then the player stays put but that's not how it works in the real world, you don't want an unhappy player on your hands. You still have a say in what transfer fee is paid but generally if a club from a higher division shows interest then a move is on the cards.

Posh is now owned 50:50 by MacAnthony and Stewart Thompson/Jason Neale's investment company, Kelgary Sports and not 49:51 as you posted. MacAnthony is still the chairman.

Posh's usp remains Barry Fry's little black book and I don't imagine that will change in the near future. Fry is still a board director.

There are more than just plans for a new stadium. It's now under construction with an expected opening date of 2023. The intention is to host around 200 non-football related events each year. It's being built with the support of the local council as part of a major development on the riverside alongside a new university and a tecnology research centre.

It demonstrates to me that they are an ambitious club with a vision for the future.

His two partners are Canadian and equally as ambitious as he is. Jason Neale has big plans for their academy hence the big investment going into it. Its a great set up at a very ambitious club, something we could only dream of.

Let me get this straight: you would sell Wood because you believe he could command a fee that would allow us to rebuild in the Summer???

I've read some whacky stuff in my time, but that takes the biscuit!!

Sorry I'm slow getting involved, on nights and just got up.
I agree with your thoughts generally Fordy regarding Staunton although I think he is a bit more advanced than just having potential, he looks like a quick learner. I'd rather he stayed with us and built up his reputation AND value but on the flip side you are right about getting a fee that we can make use of, especially with present cash flow issues. The good thing is Peterborough usually pay a decent fee, especially if they think there are other interested parties.

We've also had plenty of money from Wells, Delph, the cup runs, Wembley etc yet we're in danger of dropping out of the football league.

Would I take McAnthony over any of the previous recent or current incumbents of the club?

    Abso-fecking-lutely.

Are they? This from one of their fans
Headline it’s always about the money
I see once again the £ signs are too much to ignore for our selling club with 13 year old goalkeeper Sam Proctor being sold to Aston Villa. It really highlights the fact that we will always be a selling club, putting money before success. These type of players are our future if we believe all our beloved chairman tells us. I'm really doubting this clubs ambitions for the future and I feel the championship and beyond are purely an ego trip for our owners, let alone a pipedream.

Did you heard his podcast the other month, with the City fan?

When commenting on our plight he said something like if he couldn’t get us into the Championship in x no of years he’d walk away from the game.

Shame he’s unlikely to leave Posh anytime soon.

Best way for me to put this is go listen to the excellent podcasts he does with City fan Phil Ideson and make your own mind up. MacAnthony isnt everyone's cup of tea but for me personally I'd have him as owner of our club tomorrow and I'd be very optimistic of our club being in the championship. 60 million of transfer fees tells you he knows his onions when it comes to football.

I would like him as owner but so far he has put money before ambition I remember a few years ago Peterborough were sitting pretty at the top of the league at Christmas and they sold their leading scorer and didn’t even finish in the play offs. If a decent offer comes in for a player he will take it even if it cost therm on the field

Most clubs throughout British football are selling clubs.
only the top few have the financial clout, to resist offers for their best players. As long as you make a profit on this, its the way to go . Did Peterborough not make a huge gain on Ivan Toney. If we can hold onto our youngsters , until they hopefully become more established players, then the money will be there. With the salary cap , only so much can go into the playing budget first team wise. Hopefully the rest goes to infastructure . that is the way we will build up the club, unless we get that elusive sugar daddy.

Imo, MacAnthony runs Posh on a very business-like basis. Posh is established as a solid Div 1 club which has the occasional tilt at the Championship and has been succesful at that on a few occasions. And all of that is done with attendances of around half the size of ours. We've been 'surviving' on gates of 15,000 plus in recent years and Posh have done better than us on gates of around 7,000. He buys and sells players to provide the funds to keep the club afloat without dipping into his own pockets. He did that several years to pump prime their forays into the transfer market and since then, the profits which Posh have made on player sales have been ploughed back into the club because their attendances etc don't cover the cost of Div 1 football. That's their financial model and it's been a successful one for them on their gates.

Despite our much higher attendances, despite our recent succeses with cup runs and despite the funds we've received from McBurnie, Wells, Wisdom etc, we've haven't been able to do what Posh have managed. We could learn from that for the future if we weren't continually looking to the past.

Come on Park, that's how football works. Every club is a selling club. Just look at where our prospective clubs currently sit, Peterborough in the league 1 playoffs, building a category 2 academy and a club with a proven track record. They have 4 or 5 young players very highly rated with 2 or 3 of them already attracting rumours of 7 figure transfer fees. A new stadium at planning stage that the clubs owners will own, these very owners with a clear vision of where they want the club to be. Measure that against ourselves? Not good reading is it.

Likewise. I'd love him here. He'd need to be compliment by a more pragmatic, focused leader who could manage the day to day running of the club, but I'd take him over Rupp in a heartbeat.

Yet for some reason Park sees different. I know everyone is allowed an opinion but sometimes that opinion has no logic tied to it whatsoever.

I also have a bit of a reservation judging a club on it's nice bricks and mortar rather than as a football club. There's no denying the scale of the ambition at Peterborough United; but they remain only moderately successful.

All those brilliant schemes, and Accrington might soon leapfrog them... I do think they could focus a little more heavily on getting into the Championship and retaining good players every now and again.

I didn’t say that I just agree with many of their fans who say he puts money and sales of players before ambition. Maybe when he gets a new ground with more income then that will change.
I would like this club to model the way they buy and sell players but put more of the money back into taking the club forward
