I'm happy, the gym and outdoor football centres are still open. Get in.

Yeh. But it’s coming, you watch. Might as well do it now.

I don't understand the rush to have the tiny amount of freedom taken away. Of course its coming eventually but why rush it in areas that don't currently need it.

It’s not something I particularly want. But a month of national lockdown starting this week, or starting in 2 weeks time, what difference does it make? It doesn’t, might as well get on with it.

Exactly my thought but a different conclusion.

If it doesn't make any difference then why impose it before it needs to be.

The counter argument would be that some people want to get their freedom back, and by locking down earlier and focusing on getting the vaccine rolled out, the day will arrive quicker when we can return to some sort of normality.

A week or two of earlier lockdown now could easily knock a month or two off the ending of the restrictions.

The gym and rugby are my defence mechanisms against depression, I understand if they shut them but it really sucks.

Because it does away with all the confusion, loopholes and inconsistencies.
Countries that lockdown hard across the board get the R rate down faster and the economy suffers less of a hit in the medium term.
All this pissing about with different rules in different areas creates the conditions for rule breakers to get away with it and keep spreading the virus. Make it crystal clear and the same for everyone and it's much easier to stop the culprits. Essential work only, unless you can work from home; essential shops open only (ie food and chemists not DIY and garden centres); keep the schools shut and everyone stays home except for exercise like in first lockdown.
A few weeks of that will give us the firebreak needed to ease the pressure on hospitals and get the mass vaccination really rolling. Then we can all start to get back to something like normality in the spring and summer.

I see where you're coming from but disagree. It's wrong to make everyone suffer because people won't take responsible for their actions. I don't there's any confusion or inconsistencies at the moment either, I reckon everyone knows the rules at this point.

I'm not sure about firebreak lockdowns generally. I don't see any evidence that they work in such short timescales. They give the promise that everything will be okay in just a short time but as soon as they're lifted you're back in the same space.

Definitely not a big fan of closing the schools either. The poor kids involved have has so much disruption and no matter what anyone says online learning isn't the same, especially for poorer kids.

The vaccine will arrive when the vaccine arrives. Shutting down or not will have no impact on it though.

If they closed all retail now and made mixed retail only sell essentials then they could train some of the staff to help with vaccinations?

Would you really want Sandra from the local bookies giving you the jab?

Are you aware that one NHS Trust has already had to suspend the vaccinations in their area, as they had run out of staff, due to the virus running out of control.

I wasn't. Which trust is it?

I wouldn't advocate making national decisions based on a problem in one trust though.

It is a problem that many Trusts will be facing soon, the way the numbers are going.

In the case of the Trust mentioned, I am happy to report that they have sufficient staff come forward to volunteer extra hours, which should allow the vaccination programme to recommence, possibly as early as tomorrow.

However, the number of staff available to maintain services and issue vaccines is not limitless and, with virus numbers pushing hospitals to the limit, it could easily become a recurring problem.

Hopefully, there will be a drive to recruit extra vaccination staff, even vets have been mentioned. Just hope, if you end up at the vets for your vaccination, they don't get the injection to put a dog down mixed up with your vaccine.

The full roll out plan hasn't been activated yet. As I said before two Boots stores are converting large sections of their stores for it. Huddersfield Kings Street are converting their top floor, Halifax are doing the back section of the store by the GP surgery.

And the 'Oxford' vaccine is going to be an enormous help to the roll out, both in terms of the amount of vaccines available and helping with the logistical challenge of distributing and storing the vaccine.

Yep, they have been waiting for it due to the worry regarding storing the pfizer one
