Got to follow the rules pal. Not my decision. Plenty in Asda Keighley today that clearly think they are exempt.

Will hit them when they lose their jobs in a few weeks.

I disagree. I highly doubt there'll be a Nationwide full lockdown again. It is just not practical, people will not abide by it a second time and it would cripple the economy. Even Boris isn't that stupid.

Severe lockdown then. They're be no travel restrictions, I doubt they'll close pubs and restaurants again either (the most they'll do is restrict opening times). Essentially they'll do nothing that will harm the economy further, and if they do then they're beyond stupid.

More people are now aware of how much this virus has been over-played. During the first lockdown the mortality rate was quoted at around 2-4%, it's now estimated that it actually well below 0.5%.

Confirmed cases will continue to rise, hospital admissions and deaths will also rise but there is no way that the deaths will come anywhere near to what we saw during the first wave.

Think we'll only get away with that if we can protect the vulnerable and elderly.

And by we I mean both the government and the general population. Think that needs to be #1 priority for everyone.

If it gets into care homes and the older population again then the mortality rate is going to look similar to the first time. If we keep it out it will look miles better.

Will be interesting to see if this spikes over the next few weeks, but more dying from pneumonia and influenza at the moment (England and Wales)

Anyone, currently think we are not going over top at the moment with all this lockdown and restrictions need to think about the above.

The country is losing control for no reason...Currently.

Wait until you can’t get access to the “better things” in life because you don’t have your covid free certificate. #blackmirror

10pm closing time for pubs and restaurants from Thursday and mandatory table service confirmed tonight.

Get ready for all the "can you only catch it until 9.30" confusion!

I think the assumption is for everyone positive test one person might have it who can’t fight it off and end up in hospital and potentially die. We will see that in 6 weeks time usually from positive test or around that number of weeks. Now as you say what do you do? Do you try and stop and limit all social contact altogether, which in this day and age is almost impossible, or do you leave the lockdowns alone and let it take its course?

Virus can be slowed or even stopped without it passing onto other people. At current levels of spread we have no chance. But we must get to a point where we can test anyone and isolate that person immediately with any immediate dependents. People coming into the country too. The results need to be a lot quicker too. Until we can ge to that stage these lockdowns will never achieve what we want them To

I'm guessing they think it will lessen the amount of time people spend in pubs.

Well I suppose because the people who are in the pubs until 1 o'clock in the morning won't be there.

Will it work? Who knows? But they're going to keep doing things like this while the rates are going up.

There were several news reports about it getting into care homes again last week already. (See Fig 19, though it's unclear how much is the Rhinovirus epidemic that is seeing record absenteeism at schools.)

If pubs are spreading it, why is it already falling in London and so many southern cities? Don't they have pubs and young people? Some are nearly at zero already . What good does more restrictions achieve down south if it's nearly gone? What made it go?

Nothing much happening down south. Why should they stop family visit their parents in care homes?

Nothings made it go. Just different places are at different stages and as usual......lag.

Give it 2 weeks and we will have to see where those places are at.

Genuinely think you're seeing that little downturn at the end but like with the national picture it's just that the latest weeks data is too raw. In addition to that you're looking at places so small that their cases are in single figures and therefore prone to more significant fluctuations.

That's one if the slides from today which is easier to see than going though each town individually on that website.

But you would expect rural areas with very low starting rates of infection and low population density to take longer to build up.

In reality, people will just go earlier and drink faster.
