Taking into account an average Price for juniors etc that’s just over a million quid in. Dire really. I can see an extension

About 21 minutes in, discussion about about season ticket prices, MacAnthony talking sense as usual.
To quote him, 'Do want cheap football or championship football'.

    Is it really dire, though?

Not many clubs are replicating anywhere near what they sold last year. If we manage to sell 9,500, we’re 4,500 down on last year.

It’ll be very interesting to see how this affects our policing bill, given they’ll be a less than half in the ground when compared to last season.

Last years policing bill was well into six-figures.

Unfortunately I can't find MacAnthony's comment but I've no doubt there will be some home truths in what he has to say.

But I doubt he has grasped the outlook of many City fans who have come to expect cheap season tickets every year. Possibly in the near future, they'll be wanting cheap Championship season tickets too. Unfortunately, the two are mutually exclusive .. unless there is an expectation that Rupp or some other owner will be willing to subsidise our visits to VP!

There are thousands of City fans who just have to get real.

I think most of the top clubs in the division are reporting strong numbers similar to last season. And the majority are more expensive than us.
We should at a minimum sell enough to cover the salary cap and with some more pushing from the club I think we can reach that figure quickly. If you don’t go onto twitter would you really know as a fan who might have lost interest?

Also do you work for the club in some capacity?

I actually think under the circumstances, that ain't bad if we reach 9500 tbh.

Inevitable, a drop would occur due to the regression of the club last season and then covid19.

I still can't understand why the club state near 14k season ticket sales last season then have official attendances under 13k vs Stevenage and Cheltenham. @Bradford End@Bradford End ?

To put in context Leyton Orient averaged 5608 last season with over 4k season tickets. This season to date, 2800 sales with prices up to £360 for adults and £59 for U11s. If Orient sold all season tickets at full price of £360 that's £1m of sales less VAT. Of course not all will be full adult price in the most expensive part of the ground.

You do the maths. Would be a similar fall in sales between LO and City but pro rata, surely City will have more income coming into the club? I don't the out and out finances of either club but both have wage bills, rent, expenses, staff, policing etc.

So I'm not convinced in these times that it is so dire. Inevitable, as I say a downturn in sales but just because their is a salary cap of £1.5m on wages, doesn't mean all clubs will exercise the full option on using this.

IMO, other clubs in this league will not. I assume we will be close if not use all of this salary cap.

You might be warming to it but I have my doubts that we'll ever experience it!

Hope I've linked to the one I was listening to, Phil Ideson admits it's been long discussed among City fans. DMac admires what we do, he's looked at us a target a few times, then admits he thinks City fans would immediately pay £180-£190 for league 2 football. Basically alludes to the fact you ain't getting championship football on £150 tickets. Some the tickets in the main stand at Peterborough are over £400 but says of the fans want the club to keep spending on transfers they have to do their bit.

But we can get there with affordable football because we have been on the cusp of it twice

To be fair Park, MacAnthony makes more sense. No point in doing it during this period of uncertainty but when back on an even keel the prices have to go up. No ifs or buts, this club has to maximise income and they won't do it when their ticket prices are in a lot of cases less than half that of others. If you understand business then you'll understand why they need to go up.

I understand that affordable football allows families to come to matches look round the stands to see that. Once it becomes to expensive sales will drop quickly.
We can look at pricing when or if we reach the championship until then I don’t see the need to change pricing much.

On a normal season in league 2 I can say with confidence that the drop off of number between ticket prices at £200 up from £150 would be negligible, a couple of hundred at most. The revenue gained would more than make up for that.

Being on the cusp of it is definitely not the same as having to manage the club in the Championship. If you remember, their inability to finance a club in the Championship was one of the reasons ML & JR decided to sell up.

To make the point and I've posted this before, here's a graph of the wages paid in the Championship ...

    Championship Wages 2018-19.jpg

This is nearly 2 years old and I suspect since then a Championship club's wages bill has increased. It puts into context our £1.5m salary cap and shows what we'd be upagainst in the Championship and should provoke some thought on how much we'd have to find to close the gap and not drag the club into insolvency. It's one of the reasons why Championship STs are 2 or 3 or even 4 times what we pay.

I would love him to buy us. He mentions he has looked at us a lot due to potential but never did.

If I owned a div 1 club today I would make sure that we wouldn't get promoted to the championship however much I was worth, it would need a team of wealthy folk with money to burn to make it work...

In league 2? Notice how I quoted league 2. In the championship it would have to be minum £300 and even then its still cheap.

Not necessarily. The cost never changes getting out of league one. It’s when you get into the championship that it gets hard. But getting there is and will be similar with the wage cap.
What you do get in the championship if you have good players you can sell them for some serious money to re invest in the club. You know 8-10 million a time for some. Look at Luton for example.
You take that money and run. Anyone who wouldn’t want to get promoted needs their head shaking
