Vaughan isn’t on his way never has been and Vaughan has proved he can score goals of both Donaldson last season and Novak whilst at Huddersfield

What Bolton have done, is add good experience to a young side that played together last season. They’ve got one years experience behind them now, so I can see them being a decent side this season.

Whatever. The salary cap may have scuppered his move but you cant say he was never going. If he had a straight choice between playing for us or Tranmere we wouldnt get a look in

Don't say this out loud but there's a salary cap coming so we need every player we've got. (especially when Vaughan goes to Tranmere)

I don’t disagree with that but city had no intention of letting him go cheap

Well we've done it before. See Eoin Doyle. Itd be nice to see City showing some balls and sticking to their guns. He's contracted for a further 2 years. Lets hope McCall can encourage him that he's a good fit, and get the best out of him in that time.

103 in 142 for Lazio, might be worth place on the bench, bit young for City @ 30

We simply can't let Vaughan leave. Not after today's news. He will be on very good wages at this level and while it would open up the budget slightly we wouldn't find anyone with his quality. Being left with Donaldson, Novak and Guthrie would be a disaster.

Yer but there's a salary cap etc etc etc

So it's hard to find a good replacement etc etc etc

Players need to be more realistic about their wages these days etc etc etc

But because they're not, we're proud to introduce Joe Slade, last season's record goal scorer at Goole Town with 12. We've got high hopes for him.

p.s. If it weren't for the salary cap we'd have agreed a deal with Ravel Morrison.

You don't need to be pacey, you need the nous to be in the right place at the right time. Apart from Wells, when did we ever have a pacey striker.

How do you get in the right place if your defender is quicker than you?

i would not say Charlie Wike had blistering pace or James Hanson either or Sean Mcarthy if my memory serves me right. You can be as fast as lightning, but if you can not finish , then what good is pace. Now if you have a combination of both, well your worth ?

It’s about positional sense Teddy Sheringham the best example of that no pace but always in the right position

How many times have we seen that especially with wide men pace to burn with no end product.

Yes, a very unhealthy obsession with pace. It can help but got to be able to finish too. If a striker has pace and can finish, they aren't usually playing in L2!!!

Add Lee Mills, Peter Thorne and Dean Windass to your list....

Yup the value of pace is an interesting one, we have one poster on here who loved Connelly last season for that very fact and would like to see him back. The best crosser of a ball we have had in recent years in the wing position was probably Summerbee and he certainly wasn't a speed merchant, Beckham was probably the same for England and much of the crossing quality now comes from full backs who push on (Alexander-Arnold, Robinson, Chilwell etc).
Agree with your comment about the strikers, as someone said in another post the key is positional strength - if they can outwit the defender and decent balls are coming into the box then they will always be a handful, even if they are not blessed with natural pace
