Jesus they would be stopping 100's of cars in Keighley every day if that was true.

So 70% of stops don't have a positive outcome. That's a lot! You're also approximately 9 times more likely to be stopped as a BAME person.

Here's a 2016 government report that suggests that the tactic has 'no discernible crime reducing effects' to read.

    I never suggested that.

Don't play games, thats exactly what you meant. If you think the police maybe racist in some way then say. Shit or get off the pot.

96%of accidents are caused by sober drivers, therefore it's far safer to drive after about 5 pints yeah..?

Yep. I read that. But it does produce 30% positives mostly in drug and weapon related incidents even if the crime rates them selves don't change. It takes weapons and drugs off the streets.

As I said at the beginning are you happy to forego those.

You're also about 1,500 times more likely to be stopped as a man rather than a woman. It would be laughable if I demanded and apology because I'd been profiled in a sexist way though :joy:

I'm not going to make any suggestions like that. I do think that there should by more stringent guidelines for stops. As I've already said, if the BRE case is investigated and there was a cloned plate record then the police are right to stop him, of course they are.

There's no reason why stop and search should end completely. As long as police are acting on proper intelligence.

Kinda going round a bit in circles here.

Yes but it depends how firm the intelligence needs to be. If it has to be nailed on then theres no point anyway because they would just arrest at that point.

Being stopped is the middle ground where there are suspicions by nothing to be proven. It's a fine line but if you increase the bar so the police can only stop someone if they pretty much know that they've committed a crime than more drugs and weapons will be on the street.

You shouldn't be stopped for being BAME but nor should it allow you an invisibility cloak. If an area has a high BAME population then the percentage of stops will involve them surely. I just think this overpolicing thing is red herring. It's a lot harsher in most other countries and how often nowadays are they apologising for doing their job...it's nuts. They get caned for stopping and checking and caned when arseholes cause trouble for not being vigilant enough.

It's a fine line and the police have a tough job. I don't envy them at all.

I don't have the answers here, this goes much deeper than stops and searches. This is history, it's sub-conscious bias, this is an unjust society, this is the result of people living in poverty, this is so many things.

Whatever the merits of the vehicle being stopped, then I struggle to see why Bradford City, should become involved.

BRE as I understand it, is 'furloughed'. His journey would be nothing to do with work

BRE as a private individual, has the right to seek legal advice on his own. There is no need for City to become involved.

I assume that BRE is a member of the PFA. You would think that his membership of that body, would include free legal advice and if appropriate support.

Like a number of others on here, then my view is that if City have so much money spare, to seek to become involved in something which is a private matter, then I may well ask for my season ticket money, to be credited towards the cost of next seasons ticket.

City's actions have certainly annoyed a few who otherwise would have let the club keep the money, I'm with you a rather silly action to take in these hard times.

I was involved in a Road Traffic Accident.

A car ran into the back of mine.

    I suffered some personal injury.

It was on the way home from work.

My employers did not take legal action (although I was absent from work for a few days).

My Union fought the case for me, and I subsequently gained some compensation.

Again I struggle to see what BRE's incident is to do do with City.

He was not injured, will not miss work as a result of this, was not travelling to, from, or in the course of his work.

The cost of a legal firm taking action will not be cheap. The average cost is in excess of £200 per hour! https://www.unbiased.co.uk/life/get-smart/how-much-does-a-solicitor-cost
Just for a consultation, with all the time making arrangements, communication with the Police/BRE,reading the paperwork, the actual interview (possibly a seperate one for his girlfriend), checking case law and legislation, and writing up the advice and finally billing, will take several hours. If it goes beyond that then the meter really is running!

Just a quick reminder, solicitors have to run a building, pay business support staff, insurance, training, pay tax/business rates before the actual solicitor gets any money.

As I pointed out earlier the law firm is a current City sponsor so it's more than likely pro bono and results in yet more publicity for the firm

The firm may well sponsor City. However the club states, ‘The incident caused our player serious alarm and distress, and, having reviewed all of the evidence made available to us, we have instructed our specialist legal partners to take the matter further - on his behalf‘. That suggests a relationship were the club are incurring costs. They could state that the firm would do this ‘pro bono‘ (freebie for those not used to the term). https://www.bradfordcityfc.co.uk/news/2020/july/club-statement-ben-richards-everton/
If Opus Law are not going to charge a fee, then the wording of the statement could have included a reference to the status of the matter.
