You can make all the excuses you like for your right wing friends, but they don't wash. No one is talking about months before. But it was clear by the start of February that this would hit us. No crystal ball needed at that point - it was a certainty. We had several weeks warning and the experience of countries to the east of us to draw on. But Johnson & co did nothing. They pursued their petty ideological vendettas with our cherished national institutions and did sweet FA to plan, coordinate or procure for the response. They didn't hold a Cobra meeting until the second week of March, FFS, by which time the pandemic had already hit us. Six weeks wasted. There is no excuse for that. None. It was pure, feckless dereliction of duty. Simple as.
And that's before you even consider their pathetic and reckless refusal to join the EU procurement scheme, which they later tried to pass off as an admin error. As if.
Not to mention the ten years of butchering the NHS, leaving us hopelessly under-resourced to cope with an emergency situation.
The Times and the Spectator - Tory loyalists both - have lambasted the government for their inexcusably tardy response. But you just don't get it.

I don't get why they're not asking more social direct questions like:

"Next week is the Easter holiday's and many parents have done home schooling. When are the children going back to school because in the best will in the world children are not not getting educated correctly?"

"Minister, people are getting bored with this bloody lockdown. When is going to be over put a date on it you tool and what's the exit plan?"

"Charities are losing out on money. What support are you going to give to charities in this difficult time?"

Seriously, direct questions now!

 

But the point is Al, they didn't even bother to hold the meetings, despite all the warnings.

 

Lets hope it improves quickly.

In the real world it is the job of governments to take action as soon as possible to protect its citizens. Ours didn't. All your bluster cannot change that simple fact.
