Newport County V City (Saturday 22/2/2020)

It's amazing, for all the size of the squad we have no options in some positions and the January window was awful in letting players go and not replacing them. I know Palmer was poor but we are so short of midfielders now it's just awful.

 

It's now comical...

 

And another one: Wilbraham. We had him for a few matches a lifetime or so ago...

Stick a fork in me. Too many of the squad don’t have the balls, commitment, desire, ability, shrewdness or chance of getting anything out of this season.

Those who said mid table were correct. A good clean out at the end of the season and we’re back in familiar territory - rebuilding AGAIN!

Happy to hear we were at least better in the second half, however it’s just not good enough. We can’t play as bad as we have all season, have such a woeful defence and be so bad away from home as we are.

Start planning for next season now.

Sick of these players who represent my club, we are division two and these losers make every team look better than us.

Looking on how poor we have been, you wouldn't expect ANY of our squad to be still playing!

 

Will be interesting to see who he signs and how we start next season, because this one is over - we are a team of bottlers.

 

To be fair, he was not my first choice either. However, I am not going to judge him yet with this spineless bunch of dross he has inherited. He needs a good summer of rebuilding, and a good start to next season, or he will not last until Christmas

I don’t like the fact I agree, but I did when it was announced and still do. I’m starting to get bored of my club and it really pains me to feel and say that - it’s really been a miserable few years.

 

It was a low quality game, with each side having the better of the game when they had the wind behind them. Purely on the basis that Newport did the defensive basics better than we did, they deserved to win.

The slight positives were O’Connor as a full back - he should stay there, with POC coming in. We showed some spirit and attacking endeavour in the second half, but the quality wasn’t good enough. I also thought DMH did ‘ok’.

It’s now patently clear that we aren’t good enough to go up. A huge rebuild is needed in the summer, no doubt about that. Akpan, Henley, Mellor, R’OD, Zeli, Devine, Anderson, Gibson, Riley, Taylor, Longridge, BRE and one of Novak or Anderson need to go. Reeves is worth keeping, but only on a League 2 contract, not an expensive League 1 salary. Keep Wood and Pritchard. Maybe McCartan as a squad option.I expect Guthrie will show he adds nothing too. Cooke should be signed and if he’s cheap, maybe DMH on a 1 year deal. The rest of the loaners should be left well alone. Maybe that keeper we have from Portsmouth, if he’s free. Looks better than ROD.

A new right back, centre back, 2 centre mids, 2 wingers, 2 strikers. Plus a couple of utility players to cover at the back and midfield.

I don’t think it much matters who is manager, which players he selects of formation he plays, we’re a poor team. I can’t single out any good performance today.

 

Effectively 5 points behind the playoffs now with our woeful goal difference. And to think some were still thinking we were good enough for the playoffs just because we were actually in them. This is arguably the worst squad put together I've seen in my time as a City fan. Time to be asking some big questions in the summer because this club is like the Bismarck with the off field leadership, rudderless and going round in circles. No manager could turn this turd around.
