Not being funny, but the top three were Portsmouth, Plymouth and Donny.

Donny signed Marquis, Tommy Rowe, Matty Blair, Ross Etheridge, Mathieu Baudry, Joe Wright and Gary McSheffrey that season - some of the best players in the division. Not cheap.

Portsmouth had the most expensive squad in the division thanks to a big money sale of Adam Webster to Ipswich, and a huge squad size.

But what's more, clubs like Plymouth, Luton and Exeter who did well weren't complete rebuilds with heavy investment required - and you can see why those sides have done well at this level ever since (with the exception of Luton, who are flying).

Blackpool were just one club with some good players - like us this season - but with some real headaches for any manager, some piss poor historical decisions to deal with, and some bang average players - like us this season.

That's why I've been consistent that I expect a seventh place finish from Bowyer this season. Anything more is a bonus, but particularly for us, top three is an overachievement.

 

Jay Spearing and Sean Longstaff signed for Blackpool in 2017/18, after Blackpool's promotion to League One.

Mark Cullen was signed in 2015 by Blackpool's previous manager.

None of them were signed by Bowyer in Blackpool's promotion season, and Cullen actually got relegated from L1 with Blackpool.

Unsure where this idea that Bowyer had all these top class players in L2 comes from

Blackpool had a good squad. Certainly should of finished higher than they did but he draws far too many games.

 

Agree with your second paragraph. And have criticised him myself, some of us can criticise without calling for a managers head every game. Not sure I fully agree on your first paragraph not only on here but I’ve seen a few on Twitter and three people calling for his head on Saturday who sit within earshot, one of which called for him to be sacked after Cambridge.

 

I wouldn’t expect him to know that, this isn’t Liverpool we’re talking about now.

 

That's just a list of players that did well that season, right?

Vassell hasn't scored a goal since he left Blackpool in 2018.

Cullen was deemed nowhere near good enough ON THIS FORUM and hasn't really done anything - a player who over-performed under Bowyer, perhaps?

Delfoneso was signed from Swindon in January, and scored 7 league goals all season despite playing virtually all of it.

Potts had a career-best season under Bowyer, as did Colin Daniel - Danns again, half a season, I've no idea who Black or McAlister are, but they're not the best players in League Two now or then.

That's the equivalent of us going up, McCartan and Gibson going on a bit of a tear in terms of goals, a couple of January signings doing pretty well, and then forum users elsewhere pointing to Devine, McCartan and Gibson as some of the best players in League Two capable of firing Bradford City up to League One automatically.

I'm going to be a head-in-sander for now, refusing to hear the illegitimate calls for his head. I upset a poster on here for suggesting these knee jerk sack-mongers are just Rahicites-without-realising-it - but that's just what they are. They are following the Edin pattern of sack, fail, struggle, repeat but won't admit they've been influenced by the worst era in our history. They have, or they wouldn't be looking for yet another manager given how many have done so badly.

Bowyer is quite clearly superior to Hopkin and Collins, and while Grayson is a solid manager, even he looked like a dribbling idiot under the circumstances surrounding the club. Bowyer, like Grayson, will need a bit of time to straighten things out - and unlike Grayson, he's actually willing to do it. We should probably let him.

I hope Bowyer recognises and pushes for this, because our results aren't what's annoyed fans so far - the results are fine - it's the decision making in terms of line ups, formations, and tactics - which could all be tempered by an experienced number two.

 

Some of ours have form tbf, who can forget “Plonkinson” and some even said Peter Taylor would be better than him. Some never learn.

 

Spot on and can’t believe it’s not been sorted yet regardless of tight finances, I wonder if the likes of Brian Clough and Sir Alex thought a assistant was important.

 

The adage "nobody could be worse..." gets used an awful, awful lot...

Then they saw Brunker & Raeder, neither of whom could have POSSIBLY have been worse than Wyke & C. Doyle at one point...

Look at the players that have followed him showing he handles players right look at the opinion of Blackpool fans who didn’t have a bad word for him. He got promotion on a ploughed field with nobody watching because of the boycott. Bowyer is a decent manager and is the right choice for this club and just to point out we have lost one match this season which if we had won we would now be sitting top of the league

 

I dont think anyone is calling for his head just pointing out the clowns obvious mistakes that's all.

Maybe he’s too stubborn to listen to an experienced number two and is happy to make decisions without being questioned.

The thing is, if he manages to get us promoted this year, would that suddenly make Drury a good number two, because fans of other clubs from the @Fordy117 school of research, would look at the set up and say he must be good because he was part of a successful promotion team. Whilst the rest of us know how poor he’s been under 2 managers and the 1 game he completely blew on his own.

 

I must have looked at a different record to you then Fordy. Because I saw that he got Blackpool promoted in his first season, and a top half finish in league 1 the season after, all achieved under basket case owners.

Surely, you would accept that for us?

 

You can’t beat a good number 2.
