It is only passing interest that Doyle scored, he is no longer a striker for us. I am more than happy with our top pair. Plus you never know we might get a PL young striker to help out.

Vaughan and Donaldson both produced performances yesterday that exceeded anything Doyle did in over a year here.

I’m not arsed how he does now. I’m much more concerned with how we use the money to strengthen our own side

Exactly. Who gives a shit about Doyle, he's gone. BowyerS will hopefully bring in a younger better prospect to take his place.

I hope to god this is written into the loan agreement. Can you imagine the utter meltdown if us and Swindon finish top 7 and have to play each other in the play offs and Doyle scores the winner that keeps us in league 2 for another year.

I hope its written he has to play against us. Terrible player. His family were wearing Liverpool kits at friendly. He took BCFC for a ride.

Even if we did, there would be many queuing up to say they weren’t good enough. Didn’t both Hiwula and Cole come from u23 teams at Premier League clubs? Both rubbished by our fans despite doing ok as young kids trying to forge a career.

Doyle would have been a perfect player to have on our bench as and when needed to replace Vaughan

Without doubt Donaldson & Vaughan are a far bigger threat than Doyle was and you may not be interested in how Doyle performs at Swindon but no doubt some will follow his fortunes.
Some will follow his time at Swndon and if Wellens can get him scoring the question has to be why couldnt Collins, Hopkin or Bowyer, maybe as Wellens was his mamager at Oldham he knows Doyles strengths and plays to them.

Edited it for you, if someone is prepared to offer you silly money to play for his club would you turn it down.
Many Irish people are either Mancheaster United fans or Liverpool fans so its hardly surprising.

It will be interesting how Doyle’s replacement turns out. McCartan has a part to play but offers something different. Patrick still got a lot of development to go, therefore we definitely need a replacement.

Doyle offered good competition and replacement for an unavailable/out of form Vaughan or Donaldson whether some on here like it or not. The issue I see us facing is Realistically what sort of caliber are we realistically able to attract when you already know you have a big task replacing D & V?

A young loan will surely come with some expectation from his parent club that he plays xx% of games? Can we guarantee this if D & V are fit? Also it will be a struggle to find a young permanent replacement that has enough experience and ability to handle a potential starting place, for a fee we can afford.

Is an older currently unattached player more realistic?

I think a decent young loanee will get chances to play here. We need to be sensible with V&D if we want to get the best out of them over the whole season; that will mean rotating them sometimes to give them a rest and/or not always playing them for the full 90 minutes.

Well that is pure speculation on your part to make your point that we should not have shipped out Doyle. You have hinted that Bowyer shouldn’t have bought Vaughan! My view is we needed to release funds so we can buy a midfield, not back up or cover but actual players for the 1st 11. Doyle had his chance and it didn’t work out, and we move on.

BTW I was a fan of Hiwula. If we do get a young un from the PL then I am sure we have an abundance of experience at striker level that can help him develop.

Bowyer said Swindon rang and they were happy to let him go, its clear Bowyer wasn't that bothered about him going. That free up of salary space will be used better elsewhere and give us way better value for money than Doyle ever did.

If I was a manager of a higher division club with a young striker I would love him to come to BCFC, He may not get as many games as such but training and learning from 2 of the very good strikers we have in V & D would be worth it to educate him

Over 300 professional career appearances and an average of a goal every 3 games.
    Top scorer last season
Closest like for like replacement for D&V than any other squad member

Regardless of what anyone thought of him or how much you think he underachieved in his time here, based on his career so far I think it’s hard to argue that an on form Doyle who was played in the right position and wants to be at the club, is better than our current alternatives. That said I except if any of these are lacking, he’s an expensive bench warmer.

Top scorer last season with 11, 4 of which were penalties. Take those out of the equation, (unfair to include them as McCarten wasn't the penalty taker at Lincoln), and he scored the same as Mccarten did; 7. Doyle started over 40 games for us, Shay started 23 for Lincoln and was used as a sub 17 times so had a lot less game time to get his 7 goals than Doyle did to get his.

I'm no great fan of either player but to make out Doyle would offer way more than McCarten to our squad, given the way Bowyer wants to play, is debatable imo.

I understand the comparison of Doyle vs McCartan (though not my original point), however last seasons situations between the two are pretty contrast.

Firstly you can’t discount Doyle’s penalties. A goal is a goal, still has to be scored.

Then the difference between the clubs situations could further from each other. Doyle was playing in a massively underachieving team which created sod all and had zero confidence. The same which finished bottom of the division with the third worse goals scored.
McCartan was playing in the league below for the eventual champions, with a squad full of confidence which finished with the best goal difference and second best goals scored.
    An unfair comparison IMO.

My original post may not have read clear. I was more making the he point that on paper and career history, Doyle is a more natural positional replacement for D & V than McCartan (and Patrick for that matter). McCartan offers something different that we don’t have in the squad but given we all believe 442 is our best set up, IMO Doyle suits playing off one up front more than McCartan.

For what it’s worth, I’m still backing/hoping McCartan to have a good career with us and also do rate Doyle in the right environment. Therefore keen to understand who we will bring in now.
