Opening Home Game vs Cambridge United Aug 3rd

Hardly the end of the world but today underlines what everyone (including GB) already knew, we need another couple of players. A CM and LW seem to be the main areas we are lacking in and hopefully that will be addressed.

On the plus side, I like Vaughan and Donaldson, thought Palmer looked decent as did Richards-Everton. Definitely not the best result but after the disaster of last season it was always going to be a gradual transition.

 

Doyle, Donaldson and Vaughan cannot play together. End of

 

Hopefully he is keeping Doyle in the "shop window" till the transfer window closes

Shame for the nearly 15,000 there that we could not get a win but in hindsight dont think its the worst thing that could have happened as everyone can clearly see we are lacking in certain areas and hope this will hasten the necessary activity - a scratchy win and we might just be playing a 'lets wait and see' game

Totally wrong selection, Gibson has never been good enough, he couldn’t get in a Stevenage side and all of a sudden because he’s had a good pre season when he’s had time on the call he’s good enough for our first team

Anderson does absolutely nothing to influence a game

Vaughan and Donaldson played well but carried little threat. Aside from the overhead kick, Vaughan was disappointing in terms of finishing.

The midfield wasn't great, and the defence was ponderous.

But.

Over 90 minutes we were physically dominant, and had the bulk of play. We had little to break down Cambridge, which is an issue, but man for man we were better than them by some way - and we will win more games than we lose.

Palmer was poor imo.

 

Palmers set pieces were poor bit overall he was good. Much better than Gibson or Anderson, or Devine.

We’re too slow. In possession and over the ground. No width. No creativity.

Defensively we’ll be fine. Doyle and Vaughan are as good as it gets. Midfield it sh1t

 

Dreadful. Be as optimistic as you like but that was an awful result. Home game against a side that finished 21st last season but had 10 men? And all we had to show for it was a shot hitting the bar and a point.

At times you would've thought we had 10 men, the entire centre of the pitch was an empty hole and for some absurd reason our centre backs were dinging it forward 50 yards to Donaldson when the other 9 players were on the wing. It was piss poor and I don't ever want to see Jermaine Anderson start again, with Doyle behind a front two accompanying him sliding around like fking Bambi.

 

Gibson was very hot and cold, just isn't ready mentally for regular football. He needs to learn the game.

Anderson was very poor on and off the ball.

Palmer's nearer passes nearly opened doors, but I felt the side relied on him too much when he actually wasn't producing anything. Fair play to him for taking it on, but with that much of the ball I thought he should have done much better. And his set pieces were dirge.
