This weather forecast calls for a few extra beers before the game to warm up.

    Interesting development:

Snow is now forecast to fall between 8am - 2pm, according to Google and Weather.com. This coupled with 0c temperatures, and warnings of ice, it's hard to envisage the game being safe.

    50/50 in my opinion.

Nope on the A640 up to Junction 22 and then onto the M62 and east to Chain Bar M606. Ripponden is fine but Sowerby Bridge! A snail can get through there faster than a car! Halifax is slow as well. Seen a tortoise out accelerating a Porsche down from Pellon!

It will be postponed on safety grounds. Roads and pavements likely to turn to Ice rinks from late morning onwards once the rain starts

It is a rare event in this country according to the weather forecaster Freezing Rain that turns roads and pavements into an ice rink. Not sure how it is on grass, but will be extremely slippery would be my guess. No doubt the club will consult the weather ppl for advice.

    From the BBC:
“Freezing rain is expected to result in the rapid development of widespread ice, with very dangerous travelling conditions likely.

    - Injuries from slips and falls and danger to life on icy surfaces are likely

    - Black ice may form quickly affecting bus, train and air travel

    - Dangerous driving conditions are likely leading to road traffic collisions, road closures and longer journey times

    - Pavements and cycle paths likely to become instantly impassable because of the sudden formation of black ice

    - Power and other services, such as telephone and mobile phone coverage, likely to be interrupted or cut

I will wait till 12 before making a decision if not called off before. It is white over up here about -1c atm. Very dark as if we are getting snow actually.

I don't know current arrangements because I'm not as involved but think Paula Watson has kept gritting contract on so may be ok around ground. Covers should have sorted pitch but as you say once it starts, if it does, that may be difficult.

The T&A article which appears to rely on info from the BBC Weather Warning.

A WEATHER warning for ice has been upgraded to amber, as freezing rain looks set to cause "very dangerous travelling conditions".

The amber warning, which will last from 10am on Saturday until 6am on Sunday, warns of freezing rain which will cause widespread ice.

The Met Office said: "Freezing rain is expected to result in the rapid development of widespread ice, with very dangerous travelling conditions likely."

It said injuries from slipping and danger to life on icy surfaces are likely, and pavements and cycle paths are likely to become "instantly impassable because of the sudden formation of black ice".

Quickly forming black ice may also affect bus, train and air travel, and driving conditions are also likely to become dangerous, leading to a greater chance of crashes, road closures and increased journey times.

Powercuts and interruptions to phone coverage may also take place.

A yellow warning for snow and ice, which runs from 9am tomorrow until 9am on Sunday, remains in place.

The Met Office chief forecaster said: "Heavy freezing rain is expected to develop during Saturday.

"This will result in the rapid formation of widespread ice on roads, pavements, trees and other structures.

"Freezing rain is rare in the United Kingdom but when it does occur the impacts can be very severe. This is due to the fact that it can form very quickly, it can be difficult to see and is incredibly slippery.

"Some sleet and snow is possible over the very highest ground and the freezing rain may also be followed by a spell of sleet and snow as the precipitation clears from the west.

"The freezing rain and sleet and snow will be accompanied by strong southeasterly winds which will pose an additional hazard to travel, in particular over high ground."

Well I'm on my way; should be in Bradford just before noon.

The forecast remains borderline between snow and rain; the last time I looked, the Met Office had reverted to snow until around 5/6 pm, with rain after that.
