PM is short for Post Meridiem in Latin, or after noon so technically 12pm can not be noon as it is not after noon.

At around 700 foot above seal level (208 metres), LBA is definitely in the hills!

Queensbury is a mere 1100 feet above sea level (;)), some of us cross over the M62 @ 1221 feet above sea level and totally open moorland. I have to drive on one section of road which is 1400 foot and again totally exposed on the Pennine ridge. So I will certainly be keeping an eye on the weather.

I guess if you live in Shipley or somewhere like that, on the valley bottom, then it should be pretty easy to get to VP.

Hahahaha Love this thread, seasonal bickering in full swing.
And the Geographic lay-out of Queensbury thrown in for good measure.

Anyway, I'll just add, I've an orange ball that I'll bring Saturday, so all's well, see you mad heads there !

I'm fully expecting this match to go ahead. Even the current worst case scenario weather forecast (heavy snow) suggests that there are not likely to be any significant accumulations (at VP) until after the match, but I'll definitely be keeping an eye on the forecast, just in case.

I expect to have no problems getting up to Bradford, for tomorrow's match; getting back, afterwards, over the Pennines, could be interesting.

Whether or not we see any heavy snow, it is going to be very cold and, with strong winds, the wind chill will be significant. Wrap up well.

Met office has snow from 2pm and heavy from 4pm. That should make things interesting.

Meridiem was the name of the midday break in European monasteries before we had clocks. They used sand or water timers to ring a series of bells before the break to segment time to administer work and prayer periods. They then then repeated the series after the break. (This is why our older clocks have bells and/or chimes.) The first set of bells were ante meridiem and the second set were post meridiem so you have 1-12 am and 1-12pm. 12am was the start of your midday rest period. 12pm was the end of prayers and work and time for bed.

Latest! Forget snow accumulations worry about rare freezing rain phenomena

“Amber warning, which will last from 10am on Saturday until 6am on Sunday, warns of freezing rain which will cause widespread ice.

The Met Office said: "Freezing rain is expected to result in the rapid development of widespread ice, with very dangerous travelling conditions likely."

It said injuries from slipping and danger to life on icy surfaces are likely, and pavements and cycle paths are likely to become "instantly impassable because of the sudden formation of black ice".

    Also

“Freezing rain is rare in the United Kingdom but when it does occur the impacts can be very severe. This is due to the fact that it can form very quickly, it can be difficult to see and is incredibly slippery.

"Some sleet and snow is possible over the very highest ground and the freezing rain may also be followed by a spell of sleet and snow as the precipitation clears from the west.

"The freezing rain and sleet and snow will be accompanied by strong southeasterly winds which will pose an additional hazard to travel, in particular over high ground."
