I think it’s good signing up and coming young players so long as it doesn’t effect the first team

 

I think the problem with this is that it's a clear indication of Edin still having a say in long term matters for this club. It was his idea to have this waste of money development squad, his idea to sign cast offs and cheap continental imports for this squad, and his idea to have a program where they can attend Woodhouse Grove as part of the deal.

Now don't get me wrong, this is a very good idea but are we in a financial position to be doing this? My guess would be no. It would be roughly 15k per year for each student to board at Woodhouse, not to mention the lads wages. Now if we do this for 4 or 5 players for 2 years education you're looking at 200k minimum.

This is not a wise use of resources for a club in a relegation battle who don't pay the going rate for first team players.

 

Yes, I get that. I'm not sure they board at Woodhouse or just educate themselves there but I could be wrong.

It's a double edged sword that unfortunately Edin has created. If we stick purely to Bradford and surrounding area lads then producing players to play in the 1st team and then sell on is being dramatically reduced, if we open ourselves up to looking further a field and into Europe then we could pick out a kid or 2 that may do something. It's a gamble. A bit like everything that Edin seems to touch!

 

The youth teams still play, U18's won against the top of the league the other day.

I agree, but it has to be done properly. Currently the staff or scouts we have in Europe are far from adequate as shown by every single foreign signing under this regime. There's no point of a plan like this if it is being executed as we are doing right now and should be scrapped until we have proper qualified people to do it right.

I'm at the point where I just feel sorry for any youngsters signing for us. History shows we simply cant develop them.

Fair comment, even though this kid is 16 with all his life ahead of him, and I truly hope he's another Ole Gunnar Solskjær. However my cynicism betrays me.

Local talent is so hard to attract, albeit not impossible.
Not long ago Man City hired a host of pitches near Phoenix park. They invited the cream of the 6/7 olds from local teams around West Yorkshire. Man City scouts scoured the training games and netted the top dozen to go further at the club. They've the resource to do this. Although I'm sure many miss the net.

I coach at Queensbury Celtic and we have Blackburn, Burnley, Man City regularly coming to watch U5s/U6s...now and again BCFC. Agree invite them to their development centres across the region but also easily dropped in time...
