I do agree but I imagine it doesn't help when he's shunted around from centre half to left wing back and back again.

I think that was probably his least effective game for us and may have had something to do with Halliday playing centre back. He's usually a great crosser of the ball and has pace to get to the bi-line, something Halliday doesn't do. Based on the season so far there's no way I'd put Halliday in over Benn, but that's just my opinion.

 

We have a squad perfect for a basic 4-4-2 and a manager convinced that 3 at the back and no wingers is the way to win games. The club is going backwards. We need to realise he is not the manager for us and we need change urgently

 

Well, after last night's attendance you can't aim the argument that some players freeze playing in front of a large crowd!

 

Morais was berating our wingbacks. Said they should be bombing on, and someone in the team needs to have a gentle or strong word with them. If they aren’t running up and down that wing, they aren’t wingbacks. He said teammates need to give encouragement or even a kick up the rear. I can’t see anyone in our team doing that. Smallwood isn’t going to give them a hiding. Sadly, I don’t think GA will either. The whole team is just damp squib at the moment.

 

I wouldn't blame him.

Must be disheartening to be doing your part and scoring a shed load of goals but the team/club goes nowhere.

 

To be fair to the players, last night was the first time they'd seen the new club shop roof, lit up in all it's glory under the floodlights. Must have been really difficult for them to focus on the game.

 

Fordy, this shows how little you really know about football - it is not an 11 aside game, probably less so now than at anytime in the past. Players like Duran at Villa, Ayew at Leicester and even your own clubs rotation of strikers (Gakpo and Nunez) to add fresh impetus are very much part of the modern game.
Pointon showed more creativity and skill when he came on than the rest of them put together. He might still need to nake a similar impact when he starts but he just needs encouragement to keep working on this.
Also with all the dreadful performances at our club (both on and off the field) just staggered the brunt of your criticism was aim at a young lad

I agree. I think Pointon would thrive with better players around him. He has far more skill and vision than most L2 players.
I do believe that Smallwood is part of the problem. He worked hard and made tackles last night but his vision to see a creative pass is woeful and, when he occasionally does, his ability to execute it is even worse. I lost count of how many times he coughed up possession through bad passing.
Just imagine if we had Nathan Doyle from 2013 sitting behind Pointon and Walker. He could see an incisive pass before he even touched the ball. He’d be putting them into dangerous attacking positions up the field where they can hurt the opposition instead of having to keep dropping deep to get the ball.

 

On the bridge over Canal Road

 

I gave the fear of theft or damage to my car as the reason for my not attending evening games at VP when asked by the club email. I park just off Queen's Road.

 

Probably tempting fate now, I park on Canal Rd and never had a problem. I did have one stolen in the 90s parked on the bridge on Queens Rd though

 

Any goalkeepers on here?

Just wondering about walker again for the barrow goal, his positioning seems really off.

He has start point of the far post and moves far too late to anticipate and stop the ball going in near post. I'm no expert but it seems poor
