I'm sure with the removal of FA Cup replays the big teams can fit in an extra few games pre season in the far east, etc.

A real win for grassroots football....

A decision made to pamper to the big clubs, plain and simple.
As Simon W has pointed out, a lucrative replay can keep a small club going for a season.

What's all the fuss about anyway, we know we are gonna get drawn at home to Alfreton Town in the first round and lose in front of 1700 ...

Right decision if your a prem league fan, but for al lower league clubs including us.. its a potential huuuuuge revenue loss and another nail in the coffin of our beloved game, its all to appease the super rich clubs just so they can fly out to the far east. Football is becoming more and more like the NFL, its only a matter of time when your premier league clubs end up playing x amount of league games in the far east.

I would remove the FL Trophy and just have the league cup for championship to league 2 clubs and remove PL clubs from it.

I blame Man Man City for this!

Ruining the PL and football in general. 115 charges and so far nothing but hey let’s ban FA Cup replays

So we get Liverpool at home in the FA cup, battle to a draw after 90+minutes , then have to play extra time and probably lose to their better quality and fitness , missing out on £500,000 plus from a replay.
    MADNESS.

The gaps in the schedule will be filled by other games in time, such as additional European ties.

All this "we play too many games" is nonsense. What they really mean is "we play too many games that aren't particularly lucrative enough".

To add to the Man City thing.

The PL and the FA want to try to deflect the mess that is currently happening in the PL.

The PL decided to dock points from Everton and Forrest but nothing on Man City who have 115 charges. Everton and Forrest might stay up but it’s seemingly likely that Man City will win the league but a massive cloud hangs over the PL and Man CIty but the PL don’t want to tackle it.
Let’s play a game of deflecting and give other people something else to talk about.

It’s utter joke the decision to ban replays! The fans once again not being thought about.

Its all semantics really isn't it, arguments for and against specific ties or non ties....for me its the overarching view that the PL do not value any football beneath them, begrudgingly give money to us lesser mortals. The PL money has completely broken football. Wages have completely spiralled, almost out of control in my opinion, in the lower leagues as a result of chasing the dream. All this does is compound the issue, rich clubs get richer whilst the rest of us look on....it won't be long before they vote for a closed shop like RL Super League.

It’s great that all these big teams are out of Europe due to all these FA cup replays. Oh hang on they didn’t have any, what on earth will they do with all this free time now.

If the EFL had any balls they'd kick the Premier U21 teams from the football league trophy forthwith, but they haven't so they won't

Its rare a 'minnow' ever gets drawn against a big club let alone gets a replay. I don't particularly agree with the decision to do away with replays but then football isn't the same as years ago and the FA cup isn't anywhere near the competition it used to be.

For smaller struggling clubs that’s the end of the potential “ cup lifeline” . Draw against a big club at home, achieve a draw and get a big payday for the replay Appalling decision that just panders to CC and snouts in the trough league.

The fact that replays are being dispensed with, is to primarily meet the needs of the Premiership elite! About time something was put back for the supporters of the smaller clubs. The membership people and international fans wouldn’t get a look in if the games were played at the smaller clubs grounds. A fair system would recognise that if the big clubs are gaining, then in a fair world small clubs should also get something out of the change of circumstances.

I'm in two minds here. On one hand I can see exactly why they have abolished them to keep parity across the whole competition and to stop fixture congestion amongst the elite. On the other, as rounds one & two don't affect the elite, then why tinker.

However, given the typical round one & two ties are at very best two league one clubs, and at worst two non league clubs, I can see the logic in removing a midweek trip to Exeter for Barrow, or Torquay to Gateshead to use the worst example, and I would question if 99% or replays at round one and two actually make any money.

If they don't then scrapping them is a good idea. I think I would take it a stage further, given that extra time usually hands an advantage to the home team, causes issues in fans getting trains, and can do more damage to a pitch, and go straight to penalties.

If the home team can't win in normal time, then they shouldn't have the advantage of 30 extra minutes on their patch.

The reason for doing it is disgraceful no doubt.

However, in your hypothetical which only happens once every god knows how many years, Halifax beat United on penalties and Draw Liverpool away then they would have extra prize money and still a plump tie to boot. If this rule has been in place in 2015, we could have beaten Reading on penalties and been going to a semi final at Wembley, no one would have complained then.

Unfortunately lower league clubs can’t have it both ways, it’s okay saying well it’s better to not have to travel down to Exeter on a Tuesday night but then be hard done to missing out on a replay against a big club. The Exeter situation is far more likely. Also a lot complaining don’t even go to the early rounds, I go to every home FA cup game and it’s like a morgue, a replay of then games isn’t appealing at all. As Julian Rhodes once said, “use it or lose it”. If people wanting tickets for a game against United went to games against the likes of Harrogate we’d bring in much more revenue even without a big tie, that’s the same for other clubs as well.

This all seems to be part of a drive by the Premier League, to get as many changes (in their favour) in the game as they can, before the new regulator possibly gets in their way. Expect other attempted changes soon.

I don't think boycotting the FA Cup is the way forward (that would be cutting off our nose to spite our face), but the EFL needs to push hard to get an adequate level of compensation for these changes, especially as the announced changes will provide extra opportunities for the elite clubs to take part in more 'lucrative' matches.
