I thought this was common knowledge to all City fans?

I've got a Manningham Rugby shirt that was produced as a limited edition in 2015, to celebrate the Rugby League's 120th anniversary.

Just think,a year earlier Manningham RFC was playing here when this was taken.
Bradford city must be one of the very few clubs that had the very first home game recorded from this period.Hulmebantam, CT Bantam and king karl like this. -

There is a very good book about the conversion of both City and Park Avenue from Rugby to Football called "A Game That Would Pay". Quite a hefty read but for anyone interested it's worth getting hold of a copy.

Maybe we should try and convince Bradford Met that we still are?
They might then be as supportive as they are with the Odsal egg chasers.Ulysses S Grant likes this. -

Bradford Rugby club also struggled to attract enough supporters to fund the club. Consequently they copied City and ditched Rugby League in 1907 Bradford Park Avenue was born. A number of their supporters split and formed Bradford Northern, which tried to become trendy by changing their name to the Bulls. Rugby has always limped along and struggled to attract the numbers that Football does.

The first Rugby team are thought to be Blackheath and the first rules of Rugby date from 1845, some 50 years before the split.
The split you are talking about is the split in the Rugby codes, which was all "Union" before the Rugby Football League was formed (at the George Hotel in Huddersfield) in 1895 when the Northern Union broke away to form a professional game and "League" as we know it was born.
Football, as in the game we know and love, has absolutely nothing to do with that.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand... -
